I live in the middle of a heavily wooded area. That has pros and cons, of course. The con part of it is that some of those trees could fall on the house causing damage. The pro part is that the woods are thick enough that the brunt of the winds would likely skip over the top of the trees rather then dipping down to affect the house as much as being in the middle of a meadow.
So what is worse? Having a tree fall on the house, or the winds blowing out the windows and/or lifting off the roof?

Other than trees falling on them, most roofs are removed by tornadic activity or by interior pressures after a window or door has been breeched
This is why it's so important to protect the windows. The garage door is one of the most vulerable and least protected areas on most homes. When they give way, the winds kick up inside the garage, water damage usually occurs in the home and roofs are lofted.
But you're right. In any storm, once the roof has gone, things go badly from there out. Just trying
