GOT bit by the C5 vette locked steering column

Hmm, got a link or two? Every account I have ever read indicated that you have to unlock the steering wheel FIRST before installing the CLB. The CLB itself will NOT unlock the steering wheel if it is already locked up.

But heck, I'm always willing to learn something new....

Guys, I don't understand how the column locks AFTER the recall has been done by GM. According to the info in the bulletin at

on pages 10 and 11 it says that the column lock plate is removed and replaced by a cam orientation plate (just a big filler washer that replaces the thickness lost when the lock plate was removed) that has no teeth to be engaged to lock the column. My 2000 had the recall done on it before I bought it, and I expect that the column will NEVER lock up again. Am I missing something here???

Nope, your not missing anything the wheel don't lock anymore!!

What I know for sure is that after I had my 02 fixed the 1st time, it did not work... (Having a vette towed with the wheels turned is no fun )
Vette was at same dealer (for a different issues) who fixed the column lock the 1st time. They called me to tell me that it was locked and they had to do the recall

I said the recall was complete at your dealer before

So nothing like it locking at the dealer who fixed it. I still did not install the CLB.

And yes after the 2nd recall it locked again...
That is when I installed the CLB...
Now when the Vette is off the steering moves freely, it never did before this .

in short they are full of sh**

there are numerous posts on the other forum about people being stuck AFTER the GM fix. It flat doesn't work. GM had a chance to buy the rights to the CLB but was in denial about the problem so they came up with the crap they have now. The first fix was 4 hours and involved pulling your steering wheel...the new fix is a re-flash. Either way you are spending time at the dealer for something you can fix yourself in under 30 minutes.

your choice...I got bit 2 times.....after that I said GM could kiss my a$$
