What do you think of DAY AND DATE movie releases?

If you're not aware of the term, it basically means that a movie will release in the theater and on home video the same day. Here is an interesting article from a couple of years ago.

I bring this up because I notice the window between a theatrical release and DVD is almost non existent. Personally, I don't go to the theaters except for a handful of movies a year. I used to go on average 100 times a year. I've been known to see 5 movies in one day (no I didn't have a life then!). I do see the ones that you would typically want to see on the big screen. The list of reasons I watch at home are long: gas prices, cell phones, annoying people and their children, ticket prices, concession prices, HDTV at home with surround sound, bathroom breaks/pause button, terrible movies, etc.

I get the feeling that prices for concessions and tickets will increase more as day and date gets closer. The theater makes little to no money during the initial weeks in the theater. Their bread and butter is during the subsequent weeks of release and concessions. They probably made a killing on those indie wonders like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and ...Titanic.

Anyway, just curious what your thoughts are.

Never really paid attention to it, but now that you mention it.

I seldom go to movies except to get away for awhile. I too get annoyed more lately at some of the little rude b***ards that think not talking on the cell phone pertains to someone other than thier all important arses!

Going to have to keep a closer eye on the new releases now. I'm like you in that I'd rather watch it in the comfort of my home than the theatre.

And the concession prices are ludicrous!!

The wife of a family of 4 recently told me that between the ticket price and the concessions (basic popocorn/drinks stuff) they spent right at $100.00

for a movie!

I haven't been to a movie theater in ages and doubt I ever will again. So until a movie comes out on Blu-Ray, it might as well not even exist as far as I am concerned.
