Default Driver window function......

Am beginning to experience some problems with my drivers side window. Every once in a while (although it's becoming far more frequent) when I push the drivers' window button the window (or some internal part) will make a kinda grinding noise as it descends. Generally as it closes it's quiet. Of late it seems to want to stop maybe 4" into lowering. A second press of the lowering button does not make it work but I can push "up" and she will close just fine.

BTW the grinding type noise is not an every time thing either. The stopping or not functioning correctly may or may not occur with the grinding.

I have read several threads at various sites saying it might be just the lack of use or the "sticking" of the seldom used window motor but it seems I have two symptoms, the function and the grinding.

Window does the same thing whether the FOB is used or not.
Problem seems mostly related to lowering not raising .
Does exactly the same regardless of me using the buttons or my Valet
Problem is becoming more frequent.
No debris is found on or near the glass.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things but that seems to cover the basic problem.

Any ideas or better yet experiences and resolutions?

You probably will not be able to avoid just replacing the window regulator mechanism. The seems to be pretty much the solution for any problem related to the mechanism, gears, and/or motor. Haven't done one on the Corvette yet, but recently I replaced one on Connie's Silverado pickup truck and it was a piece of cake to do. It took MAYBE a half hour to do start to finish.

Sorry pal, get ready to shell out some bucks! Just had the same thing happen to Star's '03. Eckler's had the best price and shipped the next day. It's a fairly easy fix, just remember where everything goes. Take a picture if you feel the need to remember. Somewhere on "forums" there is a step by step with pics for you to follow. Good luck!

Thanks both Rich and Jim. I'm going to pull the door panel today and try to get a closer look but I do expect to be ordering a drive motor today too.

Ive replaced sever window regulators and motor assembly on the c3-and c4 corvettes but not the c5, the one thing Id strongly suggest is doing as much research on the process as you can before stating and buy a complete regulator with the motor attached

If it's anything like the Silverado mechanism, it all comes as one unit. Watch a video on YouTube showing someone else doing it.

That's what I did with Connie's truck. After watching the video a couple of times, actually doing it yourself will come very easily.
