Default Questions about the Chrysler Prowler

I'll fill ya's in 1st.

We're in the market for another car and I'm trying to convince the wife to buy another Vette (C5). I'd like her to get something that'll do 0-60 in less than a week .
She's looking at everything from Pontiac solstice, to Audis, Bmws,
350Zs, and of course the Prowler.
I know absolutely nothing about the Prowler.
Does anyone have any info or 1st hand experience they can share?

(IE) Reliability, resale value, top speeds, handling, comfort, mpg, what the interior is like etc.
I only ask (in this forum), because it'll save me from having to visit a car lot, especially if they're not worth my time, and I value the opinions of other like minded people (Vette owners).

*Side note...can you believe the Steelers were just beat by the Raiders 13/20.OMG!!!

Thanks,

~Ray

My opinion was that they were a looker of a car but kind of a pain to drive. I know 2 people with them and they NEVER seem to take them out. Not even in good weather like Vette people do. I almost never see prowlers driving around town. On that note if you do find one it will probably have a premium price since they are kinda rare.

A guy I work with has a Prowler for his daily driver. I don't really talk to him, so I can't tell you if there are any problems with it. He's driven it daily for several years, so he must like it. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Default Not at all...

I appreciate any response. I just need ammo so that I can discredit the Prowler!
I want another Vette in the family

Don't sweat this post guys, the wife has seen the light!

Thanks,

~Ray

I took a long serious look at the Prowler at a showroom. The one thing I can remember is that there is absolutely no room to carry anything more than a newspaper. There is no trunk and no storage behind the seats.

Nice looking car but unless you go alone and have an empty passenger seat, you can't take it for a weekend getaway, golf course or even a grocery store.

I have to admit I don't like the looks of it much at all. I read that the windshield is only 8 inches tall. Is that right? Sheesh, unless you sit WAY down in that thing, I can't imagine how you can ever see the stop lights without being about 10 car lengths back from the intersection.

No contest between that car and a vette.....

i realize i'm getting into this discussion on the late side, but i can give you some first hand info on the prowler if you still need it. resale value: they hold up real well. limited production particularly in the last year (chrysler version as opposed to plymouth version. power: virtually none. while not exactly underpowered, they only boast 215hp and are a bit anemic. automatic only unless you are lucky enough to find one of the very few specially ordered manual trans units (there weren't very many delivered that way at all)

the car is a bear to drive with very bad blind spots all around. if you are the least bit tall, you will be staring at the windshield header while looking forward (i'm only 5' 10" and it made me crazy. not too bad with the top down, but still took some getting used to.

the car has exactly zero storage room. the "trunk" if you are generous in description can hold an unfolded garment bag and not much more (you have to share the compartment with some of the car's electronics)

while the interior is comfortable unless you are very large, the interior space is very tight and confining.

in my opinion, it can't compare to a corvette in any way (assuming we are talking about a c4 and newer). about all it has is an unusual retro look that certainly sets it apart on the street. a decent low milage prowler should cost in the upper 20's to 30,000 range. for that kind of money you can get a really nice c5 for sure.

I always liked the looks of the prowler. It would be fun for a third car. I just can't understand why they put a V6 in a car that looks so fast.

Default I never knew that???

I never would have guessed they had a v6!
You're right, they look mean as hell!
Oh well, Guess that's what happens when the body is on steroids, the package ends up tiny.

Well hell..... If they were only going to use a V6, the LEAST they could have done would have been to turbo charge the sucker. Put some meat on that sandwich!
