General BS forum I guess this will be for anything that would seem to be off topic in any other forum here. Just general shootin' the breeze kind of topics. |

Went to Davie's today, I'm sad now :(
SO, as some of you know, my fiancee gave me a $50 gift certificate for Davie's Corvette, so I went there today to spend it.
And it seems one word was the theme "discontinued"
Everything I wanted was either discontinued or too expensive for me.
Things I wanted to get.
Muffler Hangar Insulator: Discontinued
PKE Module: Discontinued
Interior Screw Kit: Discontinued
Rear Defogger Elec. Clip: Discontinued, have to replace the entire back window
Smooth Intake Bellows: $140 for 2 pieces of pipe.. no thanks.
SS Brake Lines: $140 .. too much for me atm.
Upgraded Rotors : $189 EACH .. never.
Floor Mats: $80 .. a little high and they didn't have my color.
Emblems: $45 each , gonna wait till I hit the lotto and get a paint job 1st
Sill Covers: $70 .. pricy, and no styles I liked.
Cargo Tray Trim: $90 .. reasonable, but I want to do carpet at the same time
Things I need/want but knew I couldn't afford.
Transparent top: $1400 ... painted is fine.
Carpet: I really need this ... $450 .. too much for me.
Dash Pad: $750 ... out of production .. and they sold the last one.
Things I ended up getting.
C.A.G.S Eliminator: $20 .. been wanting one for a while.
Brain Screw: $.35 Sounds dirty, but I snapped one when checking clutch fluid.
Gas Guard: $14 .. protects paint when filling up, looks like a good idea.

You are lucky you got that much for $50 bucks!!!
The Vette Tax will kill us all.
I was joking with some friends about the vette tax, seems like every time I want to do something its $1000!!! Whatever it is, it will cost me $1000!!!
I guess I should not be laughing...

Boy, that's a bummer. Got a little to spend and can't spend it. As far as the transparent top, try buying from someone with a C4 that wants to sell. I bought an acrylic top and sold a solid one online a few years ago for my '92. Will cost you 1/2 the price of new. $1400 is too much $$ for one.
It's always fun to shop, though. So, for the things that were discontinued you have to buy used?? GM or the aftermarket doesn't make them anymore?

Yeah, if I felt like getting one that badly you can find them from time to time on the other site for about 700ish.
Yeah, thats exactly what the discontinued means, either find a used one, or I'm not getting one.
It was just frustrating, like the electrical connector for the rear defogger, its a plastic end terminal, goes from a wire soldered on the glass to a male plug on the bottom of the strut. Should cost at the MOST $.25 , well, since its discontinued, the only way to get one is buying a whole new back window...wtf? I'll just use a crimp terminal like I have thousands of lying around, I don't plan to concourse anytime soon lol.
I'm gonna try calling the guys at vette to vette again. They are a corvette only junkyard, gonna see what I can pick up there.

For most of us C4 types, thats about the best idea. You could also try The Corvette Shop in Tampa on Dale Mabry. See Mike tell him I sent you! DOn't tell his wife though or she'll probably toss you out on your cheap assed ear!!!
Both should be able to locate you anything you need. A little paint and it's good as new
I bought a dash pad at The Corvettee Shop for about $150.00 Now understand that it was a friendly discount. They normally run about $300.00, but not $700.00!!! Thats just crazy!
