STS-116 Discovery Space Shuttle Launch Thursday
The first night launch of a space shuttle in about 4 years. Weather should be great. About 9:35pm. I'll be out watching, will you?

The wife and I are talking about going to St. Augustine on Thursday and Friday, if the weather is OK. Sure would be cool to get a video in person of that launch....

It's Jeff, right? I'd love to see a launch in person as well. For this one, I'll probably just climb up on to my roof.
Rich, if you do go, make sure to get a good video. I would love to have a copy of that on DVD. I could send some blank discs.

Ya it's Jeff. You think we will be able to see the launch from here on the Gulf side, don't they fly towards the east after the launch ?

Yeah, I've got a Sony that writes directly to the mini DVD disks. Does a pretty good job I think. Those videos I took of the exhaust on my Z were done using it.
I checked the weather forecast for St. Augustine, and it didn't look real promising to me, though.

We can see it from here especially at night. Looks kind of like a candle. In the day light we can see the smoke trail, too. We're about 150 miles south and west of the launch site

Yep, I've seen several from here in Pinellas. Nothing like it would be from there, though.

Oh yeah, I'd love to see it up close ....and hear and feel it! But, it ain't gonna happen, so I'll be in the front yard watchin' for the light!
When the last shuttle landed a month or so ago it came over this area and I heard the boom-boom as it broke the sound barrier.
So many people just take the shuttle for granted now. You talk about a launch and the say whatever.....
