Anyone in the home alarm business?
I'm looking for a home alarm company in southwest Florida. I'd rather deal with a member if I can.
If not, any recommendations would be appreciated. System was installed by the builder so I only need monitoring.

I retired from ADT. Altho in the commercial fire division, they are still the best when it comes to monitoring. Just give them a call and explain the situation. They charge about $25/month for monitoring. All they need to do is put in a chip in your unit to call their central station, connect it to your phone line and you are all set.

Hmmmm That might be a proble. We decided not to have a land line, if anything we'll put in voip. I was hopping to go with a cell or internet connection.

Not having a land line will present a problem. It can be done with a fixed cell phone but that is just as costly as a land line; it just can't be cut like a phone line and is primarily used as a back up. And as far as I know there is no internet provider that offers this service. Sorry....

Give the folks at Sentinel Security a call. 407-352-0095 they are based out of Orlando. They drove up here to Slocala to install ours. They probably would come down and do yours. $27.99 Lifetime Guarantee 23 second response time over ADT 94 second response time.
We were going to go with Brinks but the county wouldn't let them pull permits because they weren't licensed in our county and something about unprofessional installations.

Well I found a place on the Internet called NextAlarm. They can monitor over the internet using a voip connection. They will monitor either over land line or voip for $11.95 / mo.
Now all I need is for the company that installed it to give me the installers code so I can change the number it calls when triggered. I paid for the system but I know I'm going to get into a pizzing match with them about it. I tried the default codes but that didn't work.

Since you will be using VOIP, this email I just got should interest you:
Quote:
Hello,
This email is to inform you about recent rule changes issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). In July 2006, the FCC issued an Order requiring all VoIP service providers to contribute to the federal universal service fund. The result of this Order is that, beginning on January 1, 2007, your VoicePulse bill will include the FCC mandated Universal Service Fund contribution as an additional charge. The contribution amount is set by the FCC, and is currently set at 6%.
For more information about this FCC mandated Order and the federal universal service fund, you may visit the FCCs web site at http://www.fcc.gov/.

Hmm, if this is MANDATORY, it's not a CONTRIBUTION at all. It's a backdoor TAX. I thought only Congress could levy federal taxes?

That figures, our government is holding us up at gunpoint again. I changed my phone in Indiana to voip. It (was) only $199 for a year service.

Coastal,
I've got a guy you can contact for monitoring service if you haven't already signed up for it. He installed my video surveillence system at the shop, but he's got a monitoring package for existing alarm system customers as well. Call Bill Pascucci at (239)699-7429. His company is called Vision Integrators. Good straight-up kind of guy. Tell him that you were referred by me and he'll take care of your needs.
