You know, if i had 1 mill, I would more than likely spend it on a car too

Yeah, Backyard Mechanic posted this thread with a link to that auction -> http://www.corvetteflorida.com/forum...ad.php?t=11854

The car looks pretty darn sharp sitting there.

Default ZR1 auction

just as a little added info. The high bid was actually 900k but since all the money was going to charity, the bidder decided to round it off to 1 mill

From what I understand, only the money ABOVE the actual retail selling price of the car could be written off as a deduction. Of course, when we are up into that kind of level of $$, I guess that little detail really doesn't matter much....

Default ZR1

The man that purchased the 1st ZR1 is the same guy that bought the Shelby super snake in last years auction for 5 mill., had it hauled to his collection the same day and proceded to come back the next day in his private jet ranger helicopter and fly Carroll SHELBY AND A FEW OTHER SPECIAL PEOPLE BACK TO HIS place for a little party to see how good it looked in its place of honor

Very cool auction. Jay Leno gave the car quite a build-up before bidding began too. But since the guy upped his own bid, it seems Jay wasted his breath. He was gonna buy the car no matter what.

Default zr1

yeah you got to give it time I would like to know what the insides of the engine is about did they use good stuff?? for a performance car like a vette GM did not put real good stuff in it!! know like cast pistons cast rods sucks! how much more would it cost for forged pistons & rods not to mention crank motor heads could of built a zr1 before they even thought of it

From what I have heard, they made the LS9 almost bullet proof. I believe the rods are titanium and the pistons are forged. The reason they used the LS3 block as the base instead of the LS7 was because the engineers were afraid that the LS7's cylinder walls were too thin to hold up long under the forced induction. So yeah, I believe they put a lot of thought and effort into this motor. Time will tell whether the supercharger itself will go the distance, since I believe it was custom designed specifically for this application.
