Default Some native Florida fauna....

Found this little guy laying in the path between the carport and the house this evening. He is only about 13 to 15 inches long. Probably sleeping because he didn't budge as I walked around him to go into the house and get my camera. But he certainly snapped awake when the flash went off! Looks a little but irritated by my presence, I think....

Is that a rattlesnake? Did one of your pets escape?

Sorry! That's an Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. And no, it's not one of mine. I only work with corn snakes, which are non venomous.....

very cool! I have only seen two of those badboys in 25 years in FL, and I gave them lots of respect.

here's one of the residents of a pond I have on my property:

13"-15" thats just a baby, but the babys are the worst one to get bitten by they can't control there venom yet, the big onne alot of the time will not waist the venom on something they can't eat.

Yeah, definitely a baby, so there are probably a few more of them around as well.

Just had a button for the rattle and I couldn't even hear a buzz from it. The bigger ones we see around here are much more mellow than this little guy was.

Pigmy Rattlers can be pretty small as adult snakes though. They are in FL too.

Yeah, we see pigmys around here every once in a while, but not so commonly as the EDBs. There was a kid locally who mistook one for a hognose snake and got bit when he reached down to pick it up. They are VERY similar looking....
