Default Just Announced on The Evening News...

$5-$6 per gallon for gas by summers end...That is ridiculous. If something is not done soon we will be in a full blown, forget recession, we will be in a depression like nothing that has been experienced before.

I hope McCain and/or Obama have some good ideas otherwise we are going to have something big to worry about...

Maybe we should do like in China, round up all the oil executives and hang them all...

Find out how many of our representatives in Washington D.C. have stock on the oil companies and then perhaps you will understand why nothing will be done about it. Can you say "conflict of interest"?

This is all due to OPEC and the good old Mr Chavez said that he will not be happy until the barrel of oil be at $200.00 .There is nothing our politicians can do unless they sale our supplies here instead of saving it and it they do that they need to ration the sales per customer so we dont run out. It is a very complicated matter.

we need to tell the tree huggers and enviromentalist to shove it, and drill for our own resources. Chinas doing it right now off the coast of Cuba. You think they have as much interest in being safe as us Americans would? No.

Not to slam the environmentalist, but the point is well made. We need to start tapping our own resources, shutting off supplies of food aid and other necessities that we supply to third world countries and let them fend for themselves.

Once they no longer have us by the proverbial balls, they can use the oil as lubricant, to shove the barrels up thier

You do know that China already owns us, literally, don't you? The trade deficit is such that if they called all the debts due RIGHT NOW, the USA would be bankrupt. Not to mention that if China cut off imports to us of EVERYTHING, we could kiss our economy goodbye.

If we are engaged in an economic war, we have already lost.

Sorry guys, but the rest of the world already has us by the short hairs, and that cannot be turned around overnight.

Don't mean to sound crass (sp?) but regardless of all that, it's time to stop! It's not going to get any better letting it continue.

So what if China calls in it's markers? What are they going to do if we refuse to pay? We do the same thing other countries have done, we NATIONALIZE thier holdings in the US

And if they cut off thier imports, what is it that we can't make right here in the US?

Of course, the bigger issue is would our own unions and such hold us hostage for the $$ or would they be willing to get on board and make it work?

We can grow our own crops and raise our own beef. Stop building condos and crap and start PAYING the farmers and corporate farms, to do what they do best...FARM!

Stop exporting all the raw material overseas and keep it here. We once had massive steel plants. But "we" allowed the cheap assed oveseas market to take over production. Of course once again, the labor unions influenced that decision by inflating labor rates to a point where it was no longer economical to produce it here

Same thing with the auto industry and other plants. It's a viscious cycle, but one that "could" be reigned in if we really tried (or wanted to) But...it would take everyone's help. We'd have to get past the greed and "me" isuse and start worrying about "we" for awhile.

I don't buy the we can't support ourselves theory at all

Now, if the Chinese (or anyone else for that matter) want to get pissy about
our refusal to pay them....well...that's why we have an open door policy

Again, I don't mean to sound like a cheapskate, or one who believes in backing down off a debt (never have in my life!), but we have to stop the craziness somewhere. Now would be a great time to start!

I agree and just like the fuel "crises", all it does is force the industries that require the use of fuel, or anyone that need to eatto raise thier prices to be able to make enough $$ to afford that can of corn.

In turn, the person that uses those services is required to raise thier income level to afford the services and on and on ad nauseum.

Again, we HAVE to get back to basics! Make the cuts from the top down.

It can be done, but we have to want to do it.
