Default Gasoline purchase limit?

Man, get this.... Yesterday the wife and I took out the van and it was about empty. So we stopped in at a local Shell station on Capitol Circle to fill the tank. That vehicle has something like a 25 gallon or so tank, so I was expecting around $70 or so to fill it.

Well, the pump shuts off at $50. WTF??? So I walked into the office and some bimbo just said they she didn't know why it did that. But I could bring my card into the office and they would try to run it from there. Yeah, right. It's NOT the card, lady. There's a LOT of headroom on that one..... Someone there set it up that way.

So is the current trend? Prices going through the roof yet we have to have insult added to injury by having a LIMIT on how much gasoline we can buy at a time? What's up with THAT? When I stop for gasoline, I want to fill the tank UP, so I don't have to stop as frequently.

Anyone else ran into this situation?

(I was told) when you pay at the pump your pre-approved for $50.00
if you want more you just swipe your card again for another $50
I think it's been that way for a long time, We just never knew it 'till gas got so expencive!!

Rich,

I just drove down to Ft. Myers from Maryland in my '01 Tahoe. I was averaging between 16.5 and 18 miles to the gallon. Over the 1100 mile trip I stopped in NC, GA, and Florida to refuel. Each time the total for a fill up was over $50 and I did not run into the situation that you described. I agree with you, I only want to stop and filler up. I am not a teenager anymore where I am scraping pennies together to put a few bucks worth of gas in the car. I want to go to the gas station only as necessary. You might want to change stations to see if you can find a location that is more convenient for you.

Rich

It actually depends on what card and what Petroleum Co. and some states!!
I run into this with my Car Hauler allot!!! 2 Tanks 50 gallon each I sometimes have to go to 3 or 4 places to get a Fill up at late night going back to NC Loaded!! I have a 450-650 mile range depending on Traffic, Accidents and Traffic Jams on I-95!!

I just filled the Vette up at a Shell last night, but the total was $47.50 and I used a debit card. The wife fills up the Riviera and has never mentioned anything and she goes to whatever gas station is around. I try to use the same all the time a Shell & Chevron.

My son had a 96 Tahoe and ran into the $50.00 limit both in Florida (when he was living there) and up here in Massachusetts after he moved back. His solution...........trade the Tahoe for a 2005 Sonata and no more problems with the limit. He didn't like it a bit and was glad when he got rid of the LARGE gas tank.

If I find more of them with this crap, I'll make note of them and just swing in to buy $1 worth of gasoline then go to the nearest station where I can fill it up. Credit card companies normally charge a "per transaction" fee on top of the percentage.

Or I can just play a game to see how small of a charge I can make on the pump. I doubt I could hit 1 cent because I can NEVER get it to round up to an even dollar amount without going over. I'll bet they never thought to try to implement a MINIMUM amount.........

The oil companies raised the prices forcing us to have to spend more than $50 per fillup. It wasn't my idea, so don't penalize ME for it by making it damned inconvenient to fill up my gas tank when I need to do so.

I have been limited at $75 here in the Bradenton area but I guess that is the limit at pay at the pump.
