Default clean radar detector install

i almost got nabbed today. im going to have to get a radar detector. anyone have any luck with a clean install kit. the reason i have not gotten one is because i hate the wires everywhere. any info would be greatly appreciated. also recommendations on detectors. if i rememeber correctly ive seen something that mounts right under the rearview mirror and you hardwire the unit.

Thumbs up Traveler II

Most detectors beep, squawk or make some kind of noise to alert you. I don't know about you but I don't need another beep in my car, therefore I opted for a "talking" detector. In my '86 I have a Cobra but in the '03 I opted for the Traveler II (check e-bay) around $100. I don't believe anything can beat an Escort or Valentine but somebody telling me that "Warning ka alert" is something that gets your attention. It works fine for me.

I had my next door neighbor make me a bracket that mounts where the visor clips into. I wired it into the rearview mirror so that it comes on when I start the car. He made me a couple of extras if you want give me a PM and we can work something out. By the way the wiring is easy. I didn't even have to pull the rearview plug.

The Valentine model does have an optional slave unit that can mount in your cigarette lighter recess. The main unit is mounted on the windshield so the detector has clear access to the front and rear. The Val1 has two detectors with directional indicators to show where the signal is coming from. The main unit will not light up but instead will send all the info to the slave unit. That way folks aren't on your ass following you as the "rabbit". I personally don't use the slave unit. I use the suction cups provided with the unit and hooked it directly to the mirror wires via an inviscord. It's an easy install (about 5-10 minutes). Check out www.invisicord.com. I think you'll like it.
