Let me throw this in if I may.

Tonight we went out to dinner with some friends. One of the guys there is originally from Detroit, born and raised. He's my age (50+).

We started discussing the automotive situation.

It seems he worked on the assembly line when he was 19. He was non-union because he was temporary (89 days-had to be there 90 days to join the union).

He made $19.00/hour back then! Here's what he did:

Stand on line.
place metal blank on press
step down on pedal.
remove formed sheet from mold and place back on line.

His union counterparts were making considerably more even back then.

He has friends today that are retired in thier early 50's after only 20-25 years on the job, making more in retirement and bene's than most do working.

BTW, most of the people in the factories at that time had little to no education, few were high school grads and no one other than management and the union leaders, had any sort of college.

This was NOT skilled labor. Obviously not since many of those functions have now been repalced by machines.

He now works full time as a teacher in the Hillsborough County Public Schools, and works part time as a counselor at the Childrens Home to make ends meet. His wife is also a teacher.
The benes are ok, but the pay sucks and they found two (2) firearms on kids in school today!

These are the things that gripe my ass!
Make sense to you?

"Southern culture"? There is no such thing in Florida. Most Floridians are displaced yankees.

But in any event, if your opinion, as well, "will not sway", could we then pin the blame on "northern culture"?

Nope.

You're actually one of the ones that prove our point. You don't need the union to treat people well

Chevys however traditionally have always been a little lax on the interior though. I agree with you there.
No, the interior on my dad's Caddy is pretty nice. The paint... is okay. But I painted my Z and the Vette in my garage with far inferior tools (and the door open), and I don't have 10% of the orange peel on a brand new $80,000 Cadillac.

I recently had a conversation with a Canadian GM worker. I was stationed at the Contemporary so while we waited for the 'rail to come, we talked about the bailout. He was happy because his pension was protected, I said if he sees a penny of that bailout money to call me and I'd get his family in for free.

And as for Hutch's quote... the Chinese have a similar saying. It's been a while since I read the Art of War, but Sun Tsu said something along the lines of, "the most glorious victory is when you need not fight your opponent". Something along those lines. I can find my copy and look it up if you'd like.

Not this horse! Born and bred in the South (So. Fla to be specific) and that makes them mad as hell because unlike the rest of the Americans, Southerners regardless of race, religion and ethnicity share a Southern Culture that they can't understand and don't want to understand.

We have our own culture, they don't. They tell us they are from where their parents or grandparents are from, we tell them where we grew up. We all enjoy fried chicken, barbecued ribs, mashed potatoes, biscuits and gravy. They enjoy Soy Burgers and lattes. Whatever!!!!!!
Ever heard the saying, "American by birth, Southern by the grace of God!"? Just remember the three words that every Southerner knows and lives by that they don't know, don't understand and refuse to adapt to.......Git-R-Done (Get Her Done, yeah we can spell too!)!!!!!

And yes, we all live and abide by the Castle Doctrine down here as well!!!!

Don't sweat it brother. I have a copy right here on my desk

But HM's quote (or paraphrase) was one attributed to Kruschev back during the cold war if Memory serves me right?

Hell, He probably plagerized it
