Default BB headers

I need some input, (my wife thinks I'm smokin banana peels) How tough is it to stick a pair of headers on a 72 BB with PS, PB?

See what ya started Mark?

I'm looking at a pair on Ebay. Don't look bad but don't really know if they'll be worth the effort. I know I'll have to re-do the exhaust to make the connect but other then that? Heck you need a shoe horn to get in there now.

HUGE PAIN IN THE AS.............
YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE EVERTHING OFF THE MOTOR ,ALL.,PULLEYS,STUFF LIKE THAT.AND THEN HOPE THE NEW HEADERS ARE THE RIGHT ONE'S.YOU WILL HAVE ABOUT A 1/2 INCH OFF PLAY AFTER THEY ARE INSTALLED,IT IS ALOT EASIER TO DO IT FROM THE BOTTOM,AND I WOULD INVEST IN NEW HEADER BOLTS,THE OLD ONE'S WON'T WANT TO COME OFF EASILY,BUT THEN YOU HAVE TO GET THE CAR UP A BIT.ABOUT 3 TO 4 FEET OFF THE GROUND TO SLIDE THE HEADERS IN AND UP.ALSO SOME OF YOUR PIPES MAY HAVE TO BE CUT AND NEW FLAGE MADE,YOUR HEADERS ARE LONGER THEN YOUR MANIFOLDS.LOOKS LIKE A PARTY AT YOUR HOUSE FOR A WEEKEND FOR INSTALL.

Ken,

I am running stock exhaust manifolds on my '69 and over the years I have had them off many times. I think there is plenty of room on the passenger side to drop headers in from the top (unless you have A/C). The drivers side is another story. With PS and PB the exhaust manifold must come up from the bottom. And to be honest it is always, turn it slightly this way, push toward front as you turn slightly the other way, and sometimes they line right up. The other times, not so much. It is a PITA (Rich can add this to his computer lingo list) especially if you are working on your back. Would definitely be a lot easier on a lift. Maybe after market headers would be easier, but for some reason, I don't think so.

Rich

Beside that your HP will not go up that much unless you get a whole complete ex. system,it will so loud you won't stand it,unless you get your heads port and polished,it not worth the time or money. It's a real pain in the as..............Then you need to make her breath better by working on the carb, either a rebuilt or changing the jets, don't get me wrong you can get alot more hp but it involves alot of stuff.Let's say you do all this, will your rear end beable to take it,maybe bigger gears in the rear end, newer u-joints,it just never stops. But any time you want to jump in,let me know,I always love a good tear down.

After the advise of Rich and Rob I have forgotten the header project, Seems way more effort then end result would be worth, so now ('cause I lack common sense) I'm thinking of pulling both factory manifolds to have them ceramic coated in gray. I do very much like the factory original look and I guess am always looking for ways to make her more award worthy (it' s a disease and "I have a problem")

My BB does, by the way, have A/C.

What kind of difficulty and frustrations will I encounter with a removal and a reinstall?
