This would be my graphic pen entry.

And a colored pencil of just the background for good measure

I tried learning how to do just a color change on the car. I didn't outline the car very well, so whatever color I made it, it had a little silver around the edges.

Yeah, using color sections to select only a particular object can be tough unless there is a stark difference between the object and the rest of the photo. You can sometimes do a better job by first selecting a rough area around the object to limit where the selection will act on. Trying to do an actual outline by hand can be pretty tedious to do. And I have yet to find any software product that does a real good job of it.

Yeah, I've pretty much cut out the car by hand. I've tried the lasso tool, which is very hard. The easier way to get the car I believe is to create a duplicate layer, then make the background invisible. Then erase everything but the car.

What you really need to do is to plan ahead and take a photo with a backdrop that does not have any color at all that is on the subject matter. That way you can easily remove the background with the color selection tool. One of these days I might even listen to my own advice....

Take a bunch of poses in front of something easily removable. I actually have a list of places and things that I want to take a picture of my Z. Some really cool ideas.

Did this one for a friend of mine who drives a Firehawk, obviously. Glows kinda like the one you did Rich. Also I've attached a signature that my friend did for the Firehawk forum. Love the fire in the nostrils!

With the number of third party filter packages available for PhotoShop, I guess a person could spend their entire life doing this kind of thing. I used to have a program called Fractal Design Painter that was pretty neat for this kind of stuff. I'm not sure the program will even run on my latest Windows operating system, but maybe I need to dig it out and see. I'm pretty sure it was bought by someone, but I can't remember who. Either Adobe or Corel, I think.
