throttle body bypass

i know the lt1s have a coolant line that passes through the throttle body to bring it up to running temp quickly. great for up north i suppose but useless down here. i know for alot of lt1 people thats there first/easiest mod. i never bothered, thinking that with the 160 stat and coolant at 170 it may actually be cooling the throttle body. i plan on running a 180 stat in my c5. so my first question is do the ls1s have a throttle body have a coolant line running through it, and w/ a 180 stat, 190 coolant, should i bypass the line?

Yes, the LS1 and LS6 have a coolant line running through the throttle body. I did the bypass myself when I was replacing the throttle body with a Shaner polished unit. As for it really making any difference, not that I could really tell.

I've read the same accounts about how this is really for the more northern climates to heat up the throttle body quickly during really cold weather, but you do have a point that maybe in really HOT temps, it may actually help to cool down the throttle body by leaving the coolant lines in place....

All in all, it's a cheap and easy mod, but not sure actually how much good it does for you.

There was a recent article I cam across that addressed just that point. For us down here it does act as a "cooler"--believe it or not.
