Radar detectors are illegal in several states, Virginia I believe being one of them. So far it's held.

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damned what the state does, I'll buy one and continue to use it!!! You're just going to have to become more creative in your positioning of said unit...I see a whole new genre' of business opportunites for the audio installers

Well that could be a problem. Some companies may not sell to Florida residents. Installers here may not be legally able to install the radar detectors. All depends on the final form of the law.

I guess the thought to think about is that if you are on the fence about getting one (like me!) then perhaps NOW would be the time to do so....

Now the thought just occurred to me... would suspicion of having a radar detector be grounds for a vehicle search?

Default Suspicion...

How could that be justified? Unless of course a person puts it in a place where it can be easily seen.

You could be "profiled" as possibly having a radar detector and therefore there is probable cause to search your vehicle for the contraband. Part of the profiling could be nothing more than "drives a Corvette".....

If you should want to contact the sponsor of this bill (Senator Steve Oelrich), you can do so from here -> http://www.flsenate.gov/Legislators/...t_Num_Link=014

If you want to view the full text of the bill in .PDF format, here it is....
Let's ALL write to this guy and let him know how we feel about another law that serves no purpose to the common man. This bill will not reduce highway accidents, nor will it provide a safer, more secure environment during your daily commute. The only thing this bill will accomplish is to provide the law enforcement community with another opportunity for income in the form of citations. It is my understanding that State Legislators propose and pass legislation that provides a benefit or corrects a malady to the people. This pending house bill does neither. Lets ALL contact seator Oelrich and demand that he resind this worthless legislation.

Feel free to use your own words, or mine, but do it!!!

Thanks,
Joe B.

Or at the very least ask the good senator to rename the bill to what it really is....

The Florida Speed Trap Protection Act

Seriously, if someone wants to be shooting radar frequencies all over the place, who is to say I don't have a right to have a PASSIVE device that can detect such things? It doesn't project anything potentially harmful to anyone else (more than what I can say for police offices spraying the occupants of vehicles with radar and laser emissions). How do they know that these stuff won't cause us to grow an elbow from the back of our heads or something? Most radiation effects on tissues are CUMULATIVE. If the government has some right to subject me to that sort of radiation, then I damned sight have a right to be able to know about it if I want to.

Has there ever been an instance of a radar detector CAUSING an injury?
