Default Differential grinding noise

I have noticed what sounds like a grinding noise on the the rear end (differential) when I pull to a full stop, put the trans into reverse (its an automatic) and start backing up slowly. Several friends with C-6 models, have experienced this noise in their vettes also. I took it to the dealer several months ago and they wrote it up saying that I was mistaking the noise the brakes make when they do not disengage from the rotors after a full stop. Now I have heard another story, from some of my vette owning friends, that there are some gears in the differential that are factory defective and need to be changed. Today I heard another story, and that is that GM has issued a service bulletin admitting to having filled the differential with an improper oil, and they are recommending that the gear case in the differential be filled with a new type of oil plus some additive in order to fix the problem. The friend who told me this, just had it done a few days ago on his '97 C-6 and swears the noise is gone.

Anybody has heard or experienced this....??

Help.....

your car must have 15k or more on it change the fluid and additive and your noise will go away in a hundred miles or less. the additive brakes down in 15 to 20 k and must be replaced.

Hey just thought you guys might like to know that I have a friend who has a new 2007 Z06 that has less than 4,000 miles on and had that sound. He only drives it weekends. He took it back to the dealer and the dealer switched out the rear differential under warrenty. If your vette is under warrenty I would take it back to the dealer and request a warranty change out. My local vette specialist changed my fluids on my 2000 C5 and the sound is gone.
