Tropical storm "Noel"
You guys in south Florida might want to keep your eyes open for this one.

I don't know if I would lay a lot of stock in that predicted path. Looks like a pretty sharp turn eastward is going to be needed..........

Looks like they're predicting it to briefly turn into a hurricane.

There's the old adage, ''We can use the rain".

Ya know, I've never seen one take a 90degree turn like they say this one will do..... But, what do I know. Guess we'll see in a few days, huh? They predict the weekend to be beautiful here

Yeah, I'm seeing the winds coming from the east across south Florida, so unless those turn around and go completely in the opposite direction, I can't see that storm making that sharp turn eastward. But historically they are usually pretty accurate about such things, so who knows?
Here's the latest radar animation showing what I mean about the winds....

The easterly winds are related to the storm being a Low pressure system, they move in a counter clockwise direction. The top of the storm is moving from west to east, since the storm is still south of the state. The High pressure spinning over Georgia will push the storm away like two pool balls smacking into each other.

Hurricane Charlie...
The track doesn't show it, but I remember it. All predictions showed it headed up toward Tampa. Boom! Hard right and Port Charlotte was history
Not exactly a 90 but sure was out of nowhere

Hey Linda, what about Emily? Didn't that storm go across the southern Caribbean and then beat the crap out of the Yucatan peninsula, then turn back like a paperclip and hit Everglades city then intensified and beat the crap out of Ft. Lauderdale? I think I remember that one correctly!?!?

Gang, at the 11am advisory, Noel has appears to have started the right turn. It is now moving NNE at 9 MPH (15 KMH).

Well the weather service seems pretty capable at predicting storm paths, I guess. Too bad they can't do as well with local forecasts.
