Default The first year

It's been a year today that my father passed away. There are days that I still feel his presence right here.

It's been said that things get easier with time, and I know it's true...but today is a bitch!!!

Thanks for letting me vent...

Gordon

Sorry to hear about your dad, Gordon.

I understand that sometimes people are just looking for something to say. I always hate it when they say "time heals all wounds". Makes me want to smack them in the mouth.

I'm sorry to hear about your father. Unfortunately, there's very little we can say to comfort you. There's no set time period for grief. Those who've passed are always with us no matter how long it's been.

Yeah, I know and it's not the first time I've been through this. Lost my mom when I was a rookie deputy back in the late 70's, and her death was unexpected too

It's just that this morning, I was cleaning out some old paperwork in the office (that used to be my dad's room) and found a handwritten note, a prayer, that he wrote shortly before he died.

I found it at about the same time I had to sign the authorization to remove dad from life support and DNR. He passed a few minutes later

It was surreal finding this today at that time...

Almost like he was still speaking to me...

Love ya dad...

Sorry for your loss Gordon, it really does suck when we lose someone close. My parents have been gone for years now in body, but every day I'm around they are around. Same with you, next time you shave and are looking in the mirror there they are, there in you. Reminds me of a poem, goes like this;

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)

i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

I think losing someone close to you is about one of the most humbling experiences you can go through. Brings into sharp focus how everything else is so insignificant when put into proper perspective.

The guys already pretty much said the words I would have passed on to you, Gordon. Peace...
Nice poem, Nytro. I hadn't seen that one before.

Sorry for your loss Shadow,

I’m sure your dad is very touched and proud to have a son like you.
My prayers are with you and your family.
