Damned yellow flies!

Man, what a scourge they are! I would fear a plague of them much more that I would locusts.

Last year we went away for the month of June and avoided most of them. This year we went in May, and they were here to welcome us home.

I've got a couple of mosquito magnets running that are sucking down some of them, but when we walk down the path to another part of our property, we get swarmed by them. They will bite right through our T-shirts and are incessant with their biting attacks.

If I had a button right here that would make them entirely extinct ... *CLICK*!

But until they taper off, presumably at the end of the month, our outside activities are going to be severely curtailed. Just no fun at all having to keep at least one hand at the ready to swat at those SOBs.

It looks like the mosquito magnet closest to the house is doing a number on the population of them, so I may just wait them out. Got a bunch of stuff to do on the vehicles, so I'll probably be spending more time in the garage than out in the yard.

So the weeds will just have to wait.

I've heard a lot of people recommend something like Skin-so-Soft as a biting insect repellent. Tried it once. I think it just provided flavoring for the deer flies that were tearing us up in the New Jersey pine barrens. :shrug01:

Something else I also learned: You cannot outrun deer flies. You just get their appetite more worked up the longer they have to chase you. And you get exhausted and bit, instead of just bit.

Skin So Soft works somewhat on the dreaded Sand Gnats that you can find in Medart around the rec park. Again, you have to use copious amounts and personally, I can't stand the smell. The only thing that works well on yellow flies is a well aimed swatter!

Well, I think there might be something better than a fly swatter available these days..... :hehehe:

Yeah, looks like a GREAT Christmas stocking stuffer to me..... :hehehe:
