Did you (or someone else) plant that stuff, or is it native?

I planted all of it here. Some plantings worked out better than others. The supposed "timber bamboo" I bought from a guy in Savannah turned out to be no such thing. It should have gotten WAY larger than it did.
And I put in several plantings of a rather large bamboo called "Moso" that never did well here. Which was rather a disappointment, because it's one of the more impressive varieties of bamboo.
I'll have to walk around with the video camera one of these days. The perspective should be a lot better than using still photos.
It's actually pretty awesome to walk among huge bamboo shoots in a good sized grove. The world just seems much more peaceful than outside of the grove.

Ever see any of these around the bamboo or elsewhere on your property?

Uh no. That's not a north american species. There are quite a few species of vine snakes found all throughout the tropics, that look VERY similar to each other, so I don't know exactly what species that one is. But definitely not something native to Florida.

I got the picture in another email, and don't know anything else about the snake
except that i find it very interesting. Are vine snakes all flat sided like that, or
do they just "assume the flat sided look" on specific occasions?

Nice Bamboo Rich. Michelle and I were thinking of planting some as a natural privacy fence.

I've got a bunch of Phyllostachys rubromarginata that works great for a privacy fence. Doesn't get real tall, so it fills in well to make a visual block. It's a rather aggressive runner, though, so you need to confine it if you don't want it to take over your yard.
You can have as much as you want of it. You just have to come here and dig up the rhizomes.

how would you confine bamboo and how long would it take to fill in about a 207ft fence row? I have a nosy neighbor and need to block her out of my life....
will it grow in semi shaded areas or does it need full sunlight to grow? been thinking about elaeagnus but it take a bunch of time and effort to make it look good and grow how I want it to grow.... Bamboo seems to be like Kudzoo...
