Bringing a car to Florida by a Fl. resident
I am about to purchase a corvette from a seller in Kentucky. After the sale is completed I will be driving the vehicle from Kentucky to Miami,Fl.. Does anyone know the legal process I should follow to complete the sale and bring the Vette home.
That is, do the Ky. plates stay with the car?, if not, how do I get a Temp plate? and what paperwork must I have to register in Fl?
thank you for the help.
Bob

Well I have just gone through half of this process and will do the other half as soon as my insurance binder shows up. I bought my C6 from a dealer in New Hampshire and had it shipped down here. The dealer provided a 20 day temporary tag, which is on it now.
When I go to the tag office, I am expecting to have to pay Florida sales tax on the car when I register it here, as I did not pay New Hampshire sales tax (which there is NONE) when I purchased it. I would like to think I wouldn't have to pay that tax, but I suspect there is no way out of it..

If it were me...
I'd call the tax collectors office (local) and see what they say.

When I bought the Mustang, the dealer goofed up the paperwork concerning the Tag.
Anyway,The temp. tag was about to expire so, I went to the Tax Collectors office and they made me up a New Temp Tag, to hold me till the plate came in.

Just went through......
A lot of what your talking about. The part I do not know is if The KY plates stay with the car or not.
I just brought back a C3 from Alabama. Of interest is that Alabama does not title cars as early as 72. I trailered it back so a tag was not a concern but it took 4 trips to the tag agency to get the tax, tag and title squared away.
I had my bill of sale but I ended up adding an affidavit in reference to the vin and odometer (trip one leading to trip two) must be notarized or signed by local law enforcement (and heck I R one)
Then I found I needed a bill of sale with a perjury statement saying the buyer was not lie-ing about the facts of the sale (trip two leading to trip three).
Then I run into the "but the vin doesn't exactly match" 'cause some yoo hoo in Alabama had at some point goofed (trip three leading to trip four).
Finally... thanks to a connection with DHSMV an affidavit of compliance got the (farkin) job done.
The bottom line I paid the sales tax as stated on the bill of sale, the transfer fee and the tag and title fee.
But at least and finally the State of Florida say's that bad boy Vette is Ken's

Sholdn't be a problem. A quick (relative to county government time clocks) call to the local tax collectors office will likely negate all those pesky trips
Best of luck and congratulations on your new purchase.
