My House Is Nearing Completion

ChuckG

Retired Florida Geezer
We're building in Citrus County in Pine Ridge. Target date for completion is next month.... April.

Coming along VERY well, with minimum problems during the build.

Target date for my wife and I to move? Probably Dec. 08.

I'm getting psyched. :)

We've been flying down about every 6 weeks to check things out. In April, I'm borrowing my BIL's construction trailer and driving down with a few items to make the place liveable...like a bed, some dishes, etc.

Here are some pix. The garage is 36 X 28. One bay has a cathedral ceiling for my lift.

Just these 3. Sold my 54 Corvette and sold my 2000 Corvette.

After the 54 was gone, I bought the 56 Chevy.

I have 2 DD's, a Tahoe (me) and a Saturn Vue (Mrs. Chuck)

Wow! Nice garage! One of these days I need to have a garage built here somewhere. And want to have the ceiling high enough to put in a lift if it strikes me.

Hope the house gets done ahead of schedule for you.

Looking good Chuck! I know you and Pat can't wait to get in and make the transition. Let me know if you need anything.

A great garage is every man's dream!! Congrats on your next chapter of life and :welcome: to Florida.

Thanks, Rich. Sorry we couldn't make it down to visit you and Joyce on our last trip.

As things are coming to a close, there are TONS of little items to be tended to. :ack2: We're usually so busy on these whirlwind trips to Florida that when we get home, we sit and wonder IF we were actually there.

Spent lots of time at the house. Met with the builder for a small walk through about several small issues. Then, to the Model Home, then to the bank, then to the "window treatment" place.......................

The wood flooring finally arrived, and they're supposed to start installing it tomorrow, Monday. The pool is still just a concrete "bowl" in the ground. They just poured the patio.

Not sure when the house will be done. Not sure of the settlement date either.

I know what you mean Chuck! When Joyce and I were doing the same thing a few years ago we had the exact same issues. Be patient, it will all come together.

Don't worry about us not hooking up, we can make that happen after the new house is done and you have some time.

Rich

:) Well, we got "the word". The house will be done on April 16.

SO, Pat and I will be driving down on April 20. We have a walk-through on April 21, and the actual settlement on April 22.

We'll take possession at that time, and will actually spend our first night in the new digs.

I'm borrowing my BIL's constructon trailer. It's 14' long, 7' wide, and 6' tall. We'll be hauling some items down to make the house somewhat liveable.

Got a call yesterday that the irrigation system is in, and that the lawn has been sodded. Wish I had a picture, as I'm getting psyched to see the place.

I'm told that the pool needs to be completed, and there are a bunch of little things to be finished inside, but, it's a real house now.

SO, I'll be an official Florida homeowner in about 3 weeks.

Congrats! now go get that homeowners insurance :banghead:

Was surprised at how cheap homeowners insurance is going to be.

Called 5 companies. Have gotten quotes back from 3 of them so far.

They range from $865.00 per year to $1,100.00 per year. No problem with getting coverage.

I pay over $1,400.00 now.

Congrats Chuck! Do you have any idea how long you will be down on this trip? Have you figured out when you are going to ship the cars down and who you are going to use? Let me know if you need anything.

Rich

Thanks for the invite to the Citrus County CC.

I'm aware of the club, but have not had a chance to go to any events/meetings when we've been down on previous trips.

Rich. NOT sure how long we'll be down. Probably a week from the 20th to the 27th.

I'll give you a call. :)

Chuck

Well, it's done. I'm now an official Florida homeowner. :)

Borrowed my BIL's trailer. Packed up my daughters old bedroom stuff and some other items. Towed it down using my Tahoe. Got about 10MPG.

Spent over $700.00 in gas alone, down and back. :ack2: Also had 2 nights in a motel, down and back. So...........the trip cost me about 1K. Would have been cheaper to fly and rent a car.

NO time to do anything or make any calls. Settled at 10:30AM Tuesday. Got to the house at about noon, and started unpacking....and unpacking.

Wed, Thurs, and Fri were blurs...........appts with "the pool guy", "the lawn guy", the phone company, the sprinkler guy, the appliance guy, the window treatment guy, the intercom/security guy, the cable guy, the cabinet guy, the "punch list guy", ..................and on and on. Unending.

Pat also managed to buy a sofa and loveseat, which I picked up using the trailer. Also ordered a dinette, etc.

Headed home at 7:30AM Saturday...........got home at 12:00 noon Sunday.

Hated to come home. Wanna go back. :)

"Fred", our resident Gopher Tortoise has returned. At least I think it's Fred. He delayed the construction of the house back in July, as he had to be "relocated". Looks like he's back.
