The wife and I are thinking about a road trip in October to Charleston SC. Never been there, so has anyone got any ideas? Where to stay, what to see? :shrug01:

Wife and I were just there in Feb for a cruise on the NCL Majesty. Stay at the Charleston Marriott over on the Ashley River Side. Reasonable rates and great food and excellent staff.

As for things to do check out the Magnolia Plantation and take the city tour with Adventure sightseeing. Take a trip out to Mt. Pleasant, and to the U.S.S. Yorktown. Good places to eat are Aggh Shucks(SP?) downtown on the market.

Take a taxi downtown and do your walking and then a taxi back to the hotel. Not expensive at all. Stay away from the Francis Marion hotel. If you are not into Marriott then theres the Embassy Suites at the Citadel.

Charleston is a charming city best taken in over a couple days. The Adventure sightseeing guys are the best and most informative $59.00 +tip PP for an all day affair and they will pick you up at the hotel and take you back.

ETA See you posted in July of 07 DOH.... :shrug01:

Another option: There are several nice B and B's in the downtown area...we stayed at the Vendue Inn which let you borrow bicycles to tour the DT historic areas and farmer's mkt. You are walking distance to several areas of interest and good restaurants...don't forget to try the "she crab soup"!:yesnod:

P.S. We will be staying at the Charleston Marriott on May 7 and 8 with other members of our Corvette Club (as part of our Carolina cruise). Look us up if you are there then!!:dancer01:

Oops, just noticed the date on the original post...my bad!!

We did the Marriott years back and had a nice stay . There is allot to see and most of it is in walking distance . Have a good trip

My sister and I went there in 2006. We stayed at the
Embassy Suites Charleston - Historic Charleston.
The market was nice to go through.
We took a day trip to Savanna Ga, too.
Both were nice places for a long weekend. Enjoy!
