A bad economy is always a catalyst for such things. Communism is a good idea in theory, but it just doesn't work in the real world. In hard times, people survive on hope. And what is hope if not the ability to overlook inconvenient details, like how communism never has and probably never will work, or how communism runs the country into the ground before it fails?

We live in America and are blessed as such. But people don't realize that America is, after all, just another country. The greatest and most powerful in the world? Sure. But people everywhere are the same regardless of race, religion, or nationality. So if other countries are in ruin because of communism, the US can end up that way too. But people just don't seem to realize this and so they think that they can edge towards communism and stop whenever they want because we are America, land of the free.

To my eyes, once a country moves toward socialism or communism, they don't seem able to stop it. I do hope that I'm wrong there, though.

Seems like every month we're seeing more and more restrictions of our constitutional rights, freedopms of expression and the ability to move about freely and unincumbered, and more proposals infringing on the basic unlerlying principles the country was founded on.

More warrantless evesdropping, guessing instead of investigating, intrusions into our personal lives and when and where we visit.

Of course, the majority of this has come under the guise of one of the most usless beurocracies this country has ever know...HOMELAND SECURITY!

Those who are willing to forego freedoms for a littel security, deserve neither!

Lets hope something turns this country around....but I'm not looking for it any time soon.....

What pisses me off is that my tax money goes towards stuff that I have no say on. Who the **** needs a tea pot museum? And the same people who put such a ridiculous earmark in a bill pretend to know what is best for everyone.

It confuses the hell out of me. I'd rather live in anarchy where I have to support myself 100% for everything and be able to do whatever the hell I want; than in a country where I am not able to make my own decisions and live the way I want, but need not worry about ever being in need. Progress requires someone to "stay hungry", otherwise there is no motivation.

As much as I have ranted today, I know that we really have no control over anything. The gov't will continue to make new laws because otherwise we really don't need them. I just hope for the best, and try to make the best out of whatever situation I happen to be thrust into.

Actually the BEST homeland security was already built into the Constitution via the Second Amendment. It would be IMPOSSIBLE for a foreign power to conquer the USA if all able bodied Americans were armed. No other country could possibly overtake a country with an informal army number in the hundreds of MILLIONS. Yeah, they could KILL us all via weapons of mass destruction, but they could not enslave us.

That is why to anti gun movement is so damned dangerous to this country. Once we are disarmed, a foreign power only has to conquer the heads of state that controls the military and police powers. That would be MUCH MUCH easier to do then conquering an armed populace.

Of course, a pretty lively argument could probably be held that the government has ALREADY been conquered. And WE are fighting for our freedom with THEM as a result.....

Quite frankly it would be boring to watch Toyotas go round and round at NASCAR, up and down the strip at NHRA and turn after turn in ALMS races.
If it's bye-bye big 3 then it's bye-bye BIG American horsepower.
No more Corvettes, no more factory Corvette Racing.
Not sure that anyone here is ready for that...unless of course yo think that we've seen all GM has to offer us in the way of Vettes.
Just something to ponder...not an argument.
Do I think big business should be held responsible for their screw ups?? Absolutely!!
Do I think the government will bail them out?? Absolutely!!
Is this gonna get fixed in 4 years?? Absolutely NOT!!
I do enjoy reading everyone's comments.

Actually I believe that government has CAUSED much of the problems we are having. There are SO many regulations and taxes heaped onto all businesses these days that it's virtually a miracle than any of them can survive at all.
