It's certainly becoming more organized and picking up speed; however, "they" say the because of a cold front comin in from Texas (IIRC?) it should become weaker by landfall.
They first projected a right turn and landfall in the St. Pete/Tampa area, then New Orleans/then the Panhandle. Which essentially means "they" have no freakin' idea what it'll do
Airboats are fueled, rigged and ready to fly...Have trucks will travel...
Call me if you need a ride?

I remember a late October hurricane in 2005 that was chased by a cold front. She came across Florida from the West coast to the East coast. Caused a lot of damage on the West coast and the East coast from WPB to Miami. When it made landfall it was, if I remember correcly, a Cat 3. She was nasty.

Very true Jim, and despite my quips, I don't take these lightly.
This one just doesn't seem to have the characteristics of that one or the organization
Lets hope it remain that way.
Even then, we've fueled up and made ready for deployment, the rescue boats, the amphibious vehicles and trucks. We're just hoping none of it is needed

Things are looking better, with it being downsized to a tropical storm, but we don't know what the storm surge will be like. Hard to tell with all this shallow water. But at least it's moving fairly fast, shouldn't have flooding due to rain. They were predicting 6 inches yesterday, now it's down to 3 maybe?

The downgrade and lowering the projected rainfall amount is good to hear. I have a bud that lives in Pensecola and he remembers Ivan.

Jim,
If I remember correctly, that was Hurricane Wilma. It came ashore between Marco Island and Everglade City and cut across the Everglades. The warm waters of the 'glades fueled that baby so that when it got the east side it was packing a pretty strong punch and kicked the crap out of the Ft. Lauderdale area. My brother lost his pool cage during that storm.

Glad you made it back in one piece.
It's not the heavy downpours that cause the crashes, it's drivers that won't slow down and take the necessary precautions during them that cause them
Too many people drive the same way they do when it's dry...doesn't usually work out well for them in the following/stopping distance/hydroplaning dept.
It's been good here. A little rain last night, but nothing to write home about.
How is it up in the Panhandle?
