black outs

normally i dont like black outs, but ive got a white c5 that would like very slick with black outs. however not sure of the legality of them. from my basic understanding you can have them, but if someone rear ends you, its automatically your fault. which in fl no fault shouldnt really matter. howerver what does insurance say about that?

:hmm: I'm not aware of black out (especially if they're just on the rear) being
a legal issue. They light up just fine when the breaks are applied, and when your lights are on!:shrug01: Atleast the ones I have do...

The 2nd pic is with blackouts also. I was kneeling behind the car when I shot the photo.

Putting them on...

Tried as I did, I couldn't put'em on with my hands. I ended up dropping on on the ground, having to pick out the sand/leaves.:banghead:
I then grabbed a suction cup, the kind you might find on the back of a bathtub pillow or a window mounted radar detector. They were a piece of cake to install using this method!
Stick the suction cup to the center of the blackout, placing it (blackout) into the desired position, then pressing it (blackout) into place. BaddaBing!:D
(Do note.. that the blackouts have a cut out for the top screw holding the taillights on, so there's only one way to position them into place...at least on a C6)
GS.Creations is where I got mine from for $99.00 I do believe.

i found some cheap static cling ones on mid america that look like there pretty easy to use, and easy to take off if you dont like them. however i guess not sure how easily they just fly off either. also ive seen a spray paint version. i would just want to make sure that it could be taken off.

I've been looking at the static cling style headlight cover protectors for the C6, but have my doubts they will stay on at high speeds. The angle of the wind hitting them would merely need to catch one little tiny piece of that leading edge to have the wind just peel it back. Or is that really not the case at all? I just get tired of buying stuff that isn't worth the box it came in......

let us know how you make out. and ill keep this post alive when i get them and let everyone know if they stay on. i figure for 20 bucks dont really care if i loose them after a week. we'll see

Years ago a young man in Lakeland put black panty hose over his CRX lenses. He was rearended by a lady and my Trooper gave her a citation for the collision. She lost the fight against the ticket in court and was guilty of the careless driving.

Fast forward to civil court, he lost this time around since he placed an object on his car that was not in compliance with FL law and the jury felt that it contributed to the crash. $100,000.00 lesson for this kid . . .

I thought it was this thread but maybe not. Anyway, a year or 2 back, a fellow club member (from another group) kept having problems with a particular officer from Ocala P.D. messing with him over his rear black outs.

I reviewed the statute, then we went out and did video and still documentary on the lights in DAYLIGHT hours (thats all the statute references) from measured distances greater than that required of the statute.

Also compiled all the weather data from the NWS, compiled a letter to the Chief and sent it.

Since that date, he hasn't had a problem with the OPD or his black outs.

There is I believe another statute that might bite you in the backside that covers this particular modification.

Like C5Statetrooper said, the civil suit may cost you big time. Juries are finicky sob's to start with.

I'd save the mod for shows only and remove them while operating on public streets.

Besides, we have enough crappy drivers in this state!! Why give them anything else to work with?

Actually in a civil suit your defense about being rear ended would be to simply say "Your honor, I believe the plaintiff might have very well been too distracted by his/her cell phone to even notice whether the rear brake lights were on or not...." :reddevil: Cell phones and driving don't mix.... :hehehe:

You got THAT right:yesnod: ! But my considered opinion would be that the majority of the bad drivers in Florida are snow birds from here in Massachusetts, or are retirees from here! Got a BUNCH of "wicked bad drivahs  " up here too!

Very true..."if" they were on a cell phone.

Then all you have to do is prove it:rofl1:

These days it would be a 90 percent probability of being true.........

Heck, have you walked through a mall lately? EVERYONE has a cell phone stuck to their head.

I'm wondering when the first implants tied directly to the nervous system will take place............. :lmao: Then we'll never know if someone is a looney talking to himself of just got a call come in on the neural net.
