Default Car is in the shop for more power, good news so far!

My car is in at AntiVenom for its first batch of serious mods:
  • American Racing 1 3/4" headers & high-flow metal matrix cats. I already have two-tip B&B Bullets.
  • Callaway Honker cold air intake (thanks RevXtreme!)
  • Ported throttle body
  • De-screened MAF sensor
  • 180 degree thermostat
  • NLP catch can
  • Kirban shifter
  • Tunnel plate insulation (already have Elite's Abs of Steel)
  • Dyno tune

I called Greg today to talk about some aspects of this and he told me he had already done the baseline dyno pulls:

325 rwhp, 343 rwt!

I am very happy. Very nice numbers for an LS1 car that is bone-stock except for the catback.

I don't post this to brag, because I sure didn't do anything to get those numbers, but just to share how tickled I am with my Corvette brothers and sisters.

Further reports once the work is completed. We will have dyno runs after mods but before tune, and also after tune. If the weather cooperates I plan to take it to Bradenton on Sunday to see what she'll do. I've never run this car at the track before and I'm hoping for my first-ever 12-second timeslip. We'll see!

The headers are going to add substantially to the exhaust sound your car makes. It's certainly going to turn heads......

Congrats on the new mods! How does one get in touch with the Anti Venom guys? They come highly recommended by some members but I get disconnect messages when I try to call......

Boy, you're not just a-kiddin! I didn't really think it would make that much of a difference. I'm not sure I like it. It's not so much that's it's louder (it is), but that the tone has changed a lot. It's more raspy and nasal now, whereas the Bullets on stock manifolds was just pure musclecar rumble. The drone has also gone from mild to rattle-body-panels-ridiculous. I'm going to have to drive it some more and see, but I suspect the Tis may be going back on.

The dyno and trap speed numbers were very good, almost LS6 territory. Further report with graphs later tonight.

Default Results

I hope folks won't mind too much if I cut&paste the post I made over at the Big Forum:

Got my car back today, thought folks might be interested in the results. We started with a 2002 LS1 coupe, MN6, 3.42, bone stock except for B&B Bullets. The following mods were done:

American Racing 1 3/4" headers, hi-flow cats, and x-pipe
Callaway Honker CAI
Ported throttle body (porter unknown, my tuner had it and offered it cheap)
De-screened MAF
180 thermostat
Dyno tune
All work done by Greg at Anti-Venom, Seffner Florida. Thanks to A&A for the headers and RevXtreme for the Honker.

324 rwhp, 343 rwtq, baseline
344.5 rwhp, 362 rwtq, with mods, before tune
351 rwhp, 364 rwtq, with mods and tune
(all values SAE)

Graph below.

Overall, I'm very pleased with the numbers. The baseline numbers seem excellent for a stock LS1. I was hoping for a bit more gain for all the money spent (altogether well over $3k) but I can't complain about the power.

I drove it straight from the shop to the track. I was only able to get one pass in. Don't laugh too hard, it was my first "4-speed" 1/4 pass in about 25 years and I flubbed it pretty badly, but the trap speed shows that the car is laying down the power indicated above:

1.108 RT
2.635 60'
9.294 1/8
86.95 1/8 MPH
13.70 1/4
112.4 1/4 MPH

I'm thinking hard about going back tomorrow and trying to get a 12-second timeslip, which would be my first in a 4-wheeler. It certainly has the power to do it, the question is the driver.

I also had a Kirban shifter installed and I LOVE IT! Really nice, much better mod than I expected.
