AND........I understand that they already have a bunch of people that have placed pre-orders for them. Gotta be the "first on the block" fad orders, cause those things are butt ugly (in my opinion)

It looks to me that someone did a mock-up prototype to test engineering functionality, but forgot to go on from there with the final design for a marketable product pleasing to the eye.

IMHO.
 
There is a Tesla dealer at the mall just south of us .The cars are IMO are butt ugly only to develop an uglier truck .
 
The squarish look with all straight line edges looks like some 12 year old living in the 1800's idea of what a futuristic vehicle might look like.
