C4 ENGINE REMOVAL

I am removing a engine from a 89 Vette, with a 6 speed transmission. Does anyone have an article with step by step engine removal?

Hi,
You can google "Corvette c4 engine removal" and come up with a lot of info..best I seen is about 9 articles down -click on- 101 projects for your c4 and it gives you a pretty good step by step on page 34, but as always you learn as you go Good luck

these instructions in the link above might help

USE sturdy jack stands, on all 4 corners and support the transmission securely before you un-bolt the engine, and try to work where its on a level & dry concrete floor for safety reasons

I was hoping to pull the motor with the transmission attached. Any thoughts on this?

I don't see a way to remove them both as an assembly. Maybe if you removed the hood and were able to upll from the front. Removing the hood looks like a huge pain though.

On my LT1, I removed the engine and left the transmission in the car. It was a huge PITA to do that way. Part of that was how long the car was without an engine and having to work around the transmission support. It was very little more effort to remove the trans separately before the engine and would have made it much easier. I went ahead and removed it before putting the engine back in and it made it 100% easier (and faster).

one little TRICK you guys might not know for getting the hood hinges re-aligned?
Assuming the hoods aligned BEFORE you start,
you use a spray can of dark gray paint and lightly dust the hood hinge mount area before unbolting the hinges, its VERY obvious where the hinges must be replaced & realigned, when you go to re-install the hood/hinges later and a dusting with black paint covers all traces later

Another option is to drill a small hole in the hinge plate/hood, but that doesn't help us folks that work on these things by ourselves. I've taken off many hoods by myself, but I wouldn't try one of these.

while your screwing around with the hood heres a 10 minute upgrade

once you get the hood open you might want to install emergency hood release cables

any good salt water fishing supply can get you the necessary stainless cable/leaders and crimp fittings
