Fernandina Beach?

Anyone here on this site live near Fernandina Beach? The wife and I are thinking about taking a ride out that way this weekend. Just to get the heck away from here before the busy season kicks in gear. Maybe spend the night then head on down to St. Augustine and then head on back home to Tallahassee. Maybe if someone lives out that way we could have a sort of mini caravan or something...... Depending on the weather, we would likely head over that way on this upcoming Friday.

I live in Jacksonville, but I'm gonna be out there Saturday afternoon for a post-wedding party. My buddy's father has a C6 with some mods and I'm sure we could meet up or something for a few hours.

Man, thanks for the offer, but today the wife and I were checking out a couple of websites on Amelia Island and come to find out what sort of places to see are out that way when we stumbled on a calendar of events. Well beginning on 06/22 thru 06/25 THIS event is taking place there:

Nassau Sportfishing Kingfish Tournament of Champions
Held at the downtown marina in Fernandina Beach, this has become the third largest event on the Southern Kingfish Association tournament trail drawing in many participants and spectators. This four-day event includes a fish fry community dinner, music, festivities, and fishing fun. Major cash awards ae given to the top angler.

Well personally I think it may be a bit crowded there, so we decided to pick another destination. Sorry! Maybe some other time, as we do want to check out the area sometime.

We've decided to go to Micanopy instead. Haven't been there for a bunch of years, and coincidentally enough watched that old movie Doc Hollywood a few days ago.

Man, thanks for the offer to meet up...

I visited Micanopy years ago when the town was all decked out and set up for the filming of the movie..They were done filming, but all the props were still up. I don't know what it looks like normally as I haven't been back. Let us know...........:)

I'll bet it was more the 25 years ago when the wife and I fist stopped in Micanopy. I believe we were coming out of Gainesville after attending a conference there and saw the sign on 441 and just decided to take a look. Real sleepy looking place with a few old book stores which I find irresistible. Can't remember much more about it except it took us less then an hour to check out everything there. There was a piece of property for sale there that had some very nice large live oaks on it that we toyed with the idea of buying, but never followed up on it.

We did go back later, and from what I recall, the place was changed quite a bit. Gotten a bit more upscale and had some antique shops with imported Taiwanese stuff on the shelves. So I'm not sure what to expect now. The town of Apalachicola underwent the same kind of transformation, and where the antique shops used to be darn interesting to walk through, many have become simply importers for Taiwan made knickknacks and crap. Why anyone would want to buy a souvenir from someplace that is made in Taiwan just really boggles my mind.
