Unlocking car from remote location

exile

New member
Got this in an e-mail today. Haven't tried it, don't know if it really works:shrug01: , but thought I'd share.........Tom :)

Does your car have remote keyless entry?
> This may come in handy someday.
> Good reason to own a cell phone:
> If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home,
> call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone.
> Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door
> and have the person at your home press the unlock button,
> holding it near the mobile phone on their end.
> Your car will unlock.
> Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.
> Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away,
> and if you can reach someone
> who has the other "remote" for your car,
> you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

They talked about this on the Bob and Tom show a few months back. They had callers who said it doesn't work because it works off radio waves or some kind of waves that don't go over the cell phone. :shrug01:
Wouldn't it be great, though if it did work? I guess all we'd have to do is try it...

Yeah, I would bet it wouldn't work either. The frequency response of a phone is VERY narrow, and most certainly not wide enough to carry radio frequency bandwidth.

locked out again

Well i thought this sounded to good to be true,so i tried it and i couldn't get my cell phone to open the door gee you guess i did something wrong?
i guess they havent made a nextell that could talk to a vette yet.
conclusion no key fob no getting into the car.:lmao:

I never believed it worked but I know two people who said they did it and it works. I would have to do it myself to believe it.

unlocking your doors

Well I tried and it didn't work. They also claim that if you take a tennis ball and put a pencil size hole in it and hold the ball up to your key hole with the hole of the tennis ball facing the key hole and push real hard the air will unlock your doors. I haven't tried this one but I am in doubt that it works. But if you really want something try on-star or AAA.

Speaking of On-Star, I was reading an article the other day claiming that not only can authorities track your location via that service in your car, they can also use it to actually determine your speed while driving. Obviously that opens up the possibility of recording such info and using such recording history to detect patterns of traffic violations. So you could get a ticket in the mail someday based on evidence collected via your On-Star service.

yup

yah youre correct. I didn't think about that, however The cops don't have anything better to do with their time accept stop speeders and clean up th edead. No offense cops but at least here it seems true. But I don't think they will have a lot of time to follow everyone with On-star.

My wife and I rented a car last week and drove from Miami to Naples and back via the Tamiami Trail (75 was shut down due to smoke). On the way back, I drove and somehow, there were times when we reached speeds that could have exceeded what was posted.

Afterwards, I got to thinking if there was a way the rental car company had a way to record such "minor variations" :D. The car was a new remodeled Chrysler Sebring vert. It must have been a 3 cyl. because it must have taken 4 miles to just get up to cruising speed.

To bad they could not use some spare time to pick up illegals. My friend got hit by an illegal with no license, no green card, expired plates. My friend wanted him arrested but the police refused, he did get a ticket.
