normally i dont like black outs, but ive got a white c5 that would like very slick with black outs. however not sure of the legality of them. from my basic understanding you can have them, but if someone rear ends you, its automatically your fault. which in fl no fault shouldnt really matter. howerver what does insurance say about that?
I thought it was this thread but maybe not. Anyway, a year or 2 back, a fellow club member (from another group) kept having problems with a particular officer from Ocala P.D. messing with him over his rear black outs.
I reviewed the statute, then we went out and did video and still documentary on the lights in DAYLIGHT hours (thats all the statute references) from measured distances greater than that required of the statute.
Also compiled all the weather data from the NWS, compiled a letter to the Chief and sent it.
Since that date, he hasn't had a problem with the OPD or his black outs.
There is I believe another statute that might bite you in the backside that covers this particular modification.
Like C5Statetrooper said, the civil suit may cost you big time. Juries are finicky sob's to start with.
I'd save the mod for shows only and remove them while operating on public streets.
Besides, we have enough crappy drivers in this state!! Why give them anything else to work with?
