Hello Gang,
My Names Ronnie and I too am a die hard enthusiast who reads rules and values and what years to avoid ,and what to look for in the new (pre owned market)the forums as much as possible.

I need help and advice. My 88 vette convertible with 70k miles on it was totaled after that flood we had dec 16 in fort lauderdale. I seem to feel that now as a buyer again my emotions are taking over and all the knowledge i've gained from the forum members posts and my own experience has flown out the window. I feel like I forgot all the abc's in buying

My budget since the insurance company hacked me into pieces is between 8-11k.

maybe 12.

Ideally and strongly I want a convertible. I trust the members here more so than a dealer or private owner who doesn't fully understand (baby my car)

Please give me advice. I only have 20 days left to purchase one or my premiums will sky rocket.

Welcome to the forum. Should be easy to find what you're looking for in that price range.

First of all, :welcome: to the forum. Happy to have you aboard.

My first question as it relates to the vette is are you looking to replace your loss with another C4, move to a C5 or start looking for a C6?

The latter 2 are going to be a bit more expensive. You can find an older model, well cared for C5 in the teens nowdays if you're patient. If you're wanting to pay cash, you're going to need a few more pennies, but it's definately doable.

As for buying another vette, I think the rule of thumb is generally to stretch your budget as much as possible. With the economy being rather poor, you can probably get a LOT for your money right now.

Looks to me Rich and gang have already Hit your target dead center.

I am a very big believer that the C-4's are the cars to collect right now.
Pay close attention though because they are cheap, and some owner's are going to think their C4's fit with the Challenge C4's and Zr'1's. Other certain optioned C-4's hold high price as well. Example, Black exteriro, red interior, white convertible top are hard to find, but when you do, the price is there as well. Condition of course is the ticket. Early production serial number's, or most options.
Stick w/( Z51 huge)getting the 12" wide rear wheels for the super stiff 84.
Little lesson here and Club member's jump in to correct me, or add to this observation of my 40+ years of corvettes .
The 85 C4 , stick ****, racing suspension option, plus, the fact the 84 was the ONLY year with the early dual cross fire injection ? would be my choice, provided it's a very early production number.
I found one in the Island of Curacao serail number #00006. Red convertible.

:welcome: to Corvette Florida. I would tend to steer away from the 84 cross fire injection engine. I'm not even sure that the injectors are available anymore and rebuilt ones aren't cheap. Some folks have gone to modding their 84's with carberators because the rebuilt injectors are expensive. I'ver heard 300.00/ injector. Just my humble .02 worth.
