C3 A/C rebuild...

I seem to remember (some damn place) seeing a detailed article on the beginning to end disassembly and rebuild of the factory A/C system. Does anyone remember, or know, where that article is? Not in my AM or my Chiltons. Would like to pull and rebuild the whole mess and replace the heater core too.

As an after thought have any C3 BB owners replaced/converted to a Sanden system? If so where did you get brackets and compressors and how did it work out? BTW (if so) which model Sanden was used and were the A/C lines compatable or did they have to be changed?

Can't help you with this one because my '69 BB doesn't have AC, ...dammit!

But I do have a question for you. I have noticed lately that you are in the middle of a number of projects, tires, power steering, distributor, AC, etc., etc,. etc. Can I assume that Carrie is working ungodly hours and you have a lot of time on your hands?

:lmao::lmao: I love it Rich. Actually I left ole Goldie alone and lonely in the garage for months on end and have just recently got fired up again so now it's time to get the next hundred or so projects underway.

Motorbooks Workshop book#110 Corvette 1968-1982 Restoration Guide has all the factory correct info, but a Haynes manual from Pep Boys or even Amazon books will have the step by step. Heater core is the most common trouble point and is a bit of a bitch to replace, but the Haynes manual has very detailed step by step. The Sanden is a great head unit that we use in all the retro A/C installs. We make our own hoses (have the tools) so they all fit correct.

There's a Pep boys in Lakeland. I'll get there in a few days and see if I can collect a Haynes manual too.

In reference to the Sanden unit do you guys make the brackets for my application or are they available through a supplier and what Sanden model do you recommend for the head unit?

Vintage Air makes a bracket & a head unit w/hoses to fit. Call them for details.
