Wassup!!!
of where A place of employment can give an employee 5 days off for calling in sick and not producing a Dr's. Note?
My son is 16 and it happened to him. Obviously he's part time, due to school and his age and hasn't been employed there more than 1.5 months.
Is this Common/Legal in Fl?
Note: This is the 1st time he's called in since his employment at Sonic's and it's a standard for everyone.

Personally, I would have treated that 5 days off as an opportunity to be looking for another job somewhere. Obviously they have more help than they need if they can do that.

Ray,

In florida anything is possible with the present labor laws.

Absolutely:( There is no "right to work" here so the employers can do just about any crappy thing they like as long as they stay away from the deadly sins:rolleyes:

Tell you're kid to start looking....thats just crap!!!

Yea...

I told him that once we get back from vacation in Aug. He needs to find employment elsewhere.

I can't see him applying for another job till then for obvious reasons.
I don't want my kids to feel like when things get tough...just quit.
I want them to rise above it, hitting it head on. But, this time I disagree with their policy.:willy_nilly:
So I need to be careful Not to send the wrong message.
Well at least he knows now from his own experience that...Life is like a box of chocolates!:D

Ray,

I agree with you on the hang in there part, but I'd refuse to be crapped on either. If he's an otherwise good employee with a good track record, I'd take it over thier heads, but thats me, I'm a hell raiser:yesnod: Not always the best route to go:NoNo:

Do whatevers best for him in the long run:thumbsup:

Under federal labor laws, that is legal to do as long as he was informed of the policy at hiring. At my company in Massachusetts, we allow 3 days w/o a Dr's note then we require one. This is all explained at the hiring and the employee signs that they understand. If your son did not have the company's sick leave policy explained to him, that is a violation of the law.

Also an employer, and while reading your post I thought "Well, if he has a habit of calling in sick....". But since that is NOT the case, I'd call the Labor board to ruffle his employers feathers, while I looked for another job!:toetap05:

Fast food restaurants (I use the term loosely) have a reputation for treating kids as inferior because they have a stack of applicants just waiting for a job.
