The other day, I received an email from the Boston Cooker which our family frequents on occasion.
The mail indicated a special offer for military veterans on Veterans Day.
It was a heartfelt offer (you'd have to know the Cooker staff to understand that) and a very kind one...however...it went on to stipulate that the vet had to produce either a valid (current) ID or a retired ID.
There are a lot of offers that crop up at various times throughout the year (Veterans Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc) wishing to honor (or cultivate:lmao
the military market, and they all stipulate the same thing.
Well...I had a little time on my hands, and decided to do a little edu-ma-cation.
I wrote the Cooker expressing my gratitude for thier offer, then went on to explain how many "veterans" joined, did thier hitch or 2 or 3, then left the service for civilian life.
Many of these brave men and women, from <Korea, through Vietnam, Desert Storm and OEF, etal, joined out of a sense of duty and honor. They served wherever, whenever, for as long as they were asked, then left just as quietly as they entered.
Some you'd never know and others that just don't talk about it.
In some cases, they were drafted.
They served dutifully and valiantly, and when thier hitch was up, simply...went home.
Yet others served and intended to continue thier careers, when some POS politician decided that it costs too much to maintain a prepared military, decided to reduce the size of the military, and found themselves summarily rifted with nothing more than a letter.
And in some cases, especially the elderly vets, thier ID may just no longer be able to be found:nonod:
So, I poised the letter professionally, assuring him that this is not written for me (I will not be taking them up on thier offer), but for the thousands of "veterans" that fall into the categories listed above, and sent it.
I never in a million years, expected a response.
Instead, in just a brief couple of hours, I did have a response, from Mr. McDuff himself.
He thanks me for the education and stated that he had spoken with a close friend who confirmed my comments.
He asked what they could do to repair this?
His friend had suggested a DD214 or similar document and he asked if I thought this would be sufficient.
Of course, as a business, you still have to be alert to the scammers. those subhuman pieces of chit that would take advantage of a persons kindness and willingness to honor another, for thier own benefit.
We tossed around some ideas and I figured that was that. Maybe next year they'd do something different?
Instead, this morning I recieved this in my e-mail:
Now this is action!
They didn't have to do the promotion in the first place.
They certainly didn't have to change thier parameters or send out another email!
...but he did...
In my humble opinion, this is a man and a company, that truly cares about the veterans:thumbsup::yesnod:
Thank you Mr. McDuff and the Boston Cooker:thumbsup:

Thank you from Boston Cooker Restaurant!
Greetings!
This is written for the benefit of those "non-ID" holding military veterans. We will also accept a DD214, or similar paperwork indicating their branch, dates of service and rank as well as any valid VA card. I realize now that a large portion of our veteran community received no "ID" when they left the military for civilian life. It is my wish to honor all those who served while limiting the potential for abuse.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely
Clay McDuff
