C4 Low coolant light

I have a 86 with a low coolant light on intermittantly while coolant level is OK. I can't find a sensor or anything on the wiring diagram that senses a low level. Engine coolant temp. is normal. What in the system generates a low coolant signal???
 
Sensor

The sensor is right under the cap. I have the same problem once in a while it just goes off. I suppose the sensor is going bad?
