C5 Noise - Need Advice

I have an unkown noise coming from underneath my car (2001 triple black, convertible, 6 speed). It is definitely not a squeak or rattle. I hear it usually when I first pull out, in first or second gear, and going straight. It sounds like two metal rods clacking against each other, or like a metal rod bouncing off the concrete. Pushing in the clutch doesn't effect it. I have jacked up the car front and back and can't find anything loose. I have checked the sway bar in back and it was tight. No other performance issues with the car. I have searched on the corvette forum and haven't found any description that sounds like it. I sent an email on it to the Vette Doctor in Melbourne ( I have no experience with them or any other mechanic...I do my own maintenance).

I'd willing to bet your hearing the Duel Mass Flywheel!!! Get used to it,or spend some Big$$ and change it out for a conventional type flywheel!,there noisy like a Diesel Truck!!~!!Some just worse than others!!:banghead::banghead::banghead:Mine sounds like a Box of steel marbles when it's cold, and like steel rods banging together when it's hot!!(Just in 1st and sometimes 2nd!!)

I agree. Any aftermarket multi disc clutch will be noisy like described.

Mine is a Stock GM Clutch!!I've had the noise since about 900 miles,or 5 years in January in my 03 Z-51!! I have 3 C5 six speeds here all have some clutch noise!! (03 Z-51 6 sp. Cp. 38,000 miles,03 6 sp Convertible 46,000 miles,01 Z06 34,000 miles) If you read in the owners manual,GM states that this is normal!!

03 Z-51 cp has done it since about March 03 with 900 miles, (Delivery Date 01-10-03)

03 Convertible don't know when it started, the car was Expressly built for and belonged to a Good personal friend, and is the Quietest of them all!!(Delivery Date 01-10-03)

Vette Doctor figured it out!

The tire pressue sensor in the right front tire had broken off (he thinks it was cracked when the tires were put on). So when driving slow, it would flop around and stike the metal in the center, thus the noise. The vette doc is awesome.....he also made a house call to fix my car on the street when the steering column was locked up, and it couldn't be towed. If you live in Melbourne and need an honest, competent, and friendly vette mechanic, he is your man.

WOW! That would have driven me NUTS trying to figure it out. I guess at high speeds, centrifugal force pinned it to the inside of the wheel so it didn't flop around and make noise...... :crazy03:

Thanks for letting us know the fix......

:lol Greg told me to post to look at your tire sensor and I got sidetracked.

Im glad you have a brain like that on your side:thumbsup:
