Clearwater Event Cancellation

I found out today at work today that the event at Quaker, Steak and Lube on October 6th has been cancelled. The Sheriffs Department has had many budget cut backs and due to complaints that their officers and funds could be better spent and used else where, the PAL fund raiser is gone. I was also told that there were insurance problems regarding the Bike Poker Run, which could cost upwards of $5,000. I was one of the first to volunteer at work for this project and was very disappointed at the news. I would like to personally thank Larry Broga for his volunteering spirit in this matter and in handing out flyers at the car shows he attends. Thank you for your time and effort. All at work were looking forward to helping out a good cause, especially after the Sheriffs Department asked my employers to help out as they had in the past. Many meetings were held, many letters were mailed. Maybe something will come about next year. Thanks to all who were planning to help out by attending the event.

Sorry to hear about this. I was looking forward to going and supporting a worthy cause.

FWIW, as far as the insurance goes, there's ways around that and I'm sure if we looked dilligently enough, we could come up with some creative funding for the event:thumbsup:

This BS about budget cuts is a cruch:thumbsdown:

All these departments lately are whining about budget cuts when in reality, they've been spending unfettered by legislation for decades. BTDT, been a part of it:(

If these agencies were private entities, they'd be out fo business by now.

Instead of buying fleets of new cars every year, and having officers whining over who has the newest car, learn to make due with the equipment you have and purchase "needed" equipment first. Too much waste in local police agencies and most are top heavy with administration.

Our Sheriff used to say, if he didn't get what he asked the county comission for, he'd go to Tallahassee! And on an occasion or two, he did:yesnod:

I've experienced the unabated spending 1st hand:(

This year when the cutbacks (actually roll backs) were proposed, the hue and cry went out that we were going to have to cut "vital" law enforcement and fire services:eek: ...just like every budget year:(

Of course thats not going to happen and this tme, people were smart enough not to fall for it. Now, forced to cut costs, they use the escuse of budget cuts and manpower to rile the public.

What particular section of the Sheriff's Office was going to be burdened? What part could be used more effectively elsewhere?

Is it the people that were going to work security there? If so, thats an off duty paid detail. If they choose to volunteer thier time, so be it. Otherwise, for the week, swith the crime prevention deputies to week days off from thier normal M-F and let them work it. Use the reserve and auxilliary to support. Thats what they're there for:thumbsup:

If it's the tactical team, please:rolleyes: Cancel a training day or some other non-youth related P.R. event and place them there. I'd bet if they really wanted to, they could find a way;)

Did I mention that I have an inate dislike for most politics and politicians???:lmao:

Gee, I really didn't notice..........

Sorry to hear about the event cancellation. But there is always next year to try again....

Politicians and Administrators are always the first to lament when their money tree gets pruned, but at the same time proposing a salary increase for the crappy job they seem to be doing.
