Confusion

I posted a few weeks ago that I am planing on purchasing a C4 Corvette sometime after a Graduatate in the next few months to come. Since then I have done some research on the C4 models and such. I have found to like the 1993 version the most. Now here is the question :crazy03: It seems that in 93' they built (Hatchback) an LT1, ZR1, LT5? I do not know the difference!!! It seems to me that the ZR1 added an extra 105hp. I would assume there is more to this... if anyone has some insight i would love to know about the 93' versions!

Thanks

You better rethink that 93. I owned a 94 for 8 years before getting my C6. In 94 they added the passenger airbag. This not only adds safety but slightly lowers your insurance yearly. In 96 they added the cool side vents, a vented DURA SPARK (cost about $700 to replace if it gets wet so dont hose off your engine in a 95 or lower) and FINALLY fixed (by changing gasket material) the constantly leaking head gaskets and water pump gaskets. (both mine went out withen a year of buying the car ((5 years old at the time)) One final note, if your getting a manual you can also get the newer engine with 30 extra HP in the 96. Lots of big improvements for a little more money. I also heard that the 94 + had better insuration and they fixed some squeek/rattle issues.

Thanks! That is the kind of stuff I want to hear about before I buy one. I will definitely look into some of the other models!

:shrug01: What is that and why so much to replace? :shrug01:

The Dura Spark sits in front of the engine, if I remember correctly its right in front of the water pump. Google it to find more info but they were not vented and people hosing off their engins would get moisture inside and the whole system would have to be replaced. I asked the GM dealership about 5 years ago on the cost and at that time it was $600 so im guessing about $800 now. Also the valve gaskets and water pump gaskets I mentioned I had BOTH replaced twice. It was a known problem and only addressed in the final year of the C4. When I had the leaky gaskets changed I specified the new material but GM said it was a different fit or something and they wouldnt work so I got the old gasket material. Guess what 3 months after the 1 year warranted expired it started leaking oil from the gasket again. The water pump gasket also went out twice, that was also addressed in the 96. I always wished I bought a 96 but didnt realize till it was too late the differences were so important. Combine with the other squeek/rattle issues fixed and the fact that the car is already old, why go older, get the 96. :yesnod:

Thanks for the explanation. Looks like I will probably save a few more $ and get a 96 to save future problems and $. :dancer01: Don't they make covers/shields to protect certain parts under the hood. Wonder if they make one for that.

I thought it was called an Opti Spark....

Ummmm.... I do believe you are correct on that one.

Anyways I would definiatly suggest saving a bit more for a much better car. Plus your get some of that money back on resale because the car is 3 years newer, better and most likely will have less miles on it. You cant go wrong with a well kept 96. O and if the headlight motor runs but the headlights dont flip all you need are GEAR BUSHINGS not a new motor. Get them from several corvette specialty shops for about $7 a set and replace them yourself in an hour. Both sides went out and it cost me $14 instead of $700 ($350 for each motor at GM, they wont replace the bushings, they only do the entire motor) I sold my 94 to my brother and last week he called me saying one of the headlights wasnt flipping. I went over and sure enough after about 5 years the bushings once again turned to dust. He ordered a new kit below for $8 and we will be installing them this week.
