Wow. Look at this price for a cv axle boot replacement from a Corvette forum sponsor.

GM parts direct wanted 48.00

I went to rock auto and 7.98 :eek:

All three looked exactly the same. RA part is made by raybestos. I don't consider it a critical part and I'm only out 8 bucks if it is FUBAR, so I'll chance it.

FAST 92 intake purchase is right around the corner (I will port it) so I don't want to rob funds from that. When you run with the Posse you got to keep up. :banghead:

Anyways, RA had one left for the inner and outer so I got both.

I'll let you know when the part gets here and how good it is compared to OEM. Also got the headlight gear replacement for 11.00.

Needless to say I am dumbfounded. I understand economics very well (I used to teach it :D) but geesh, thats a HUGE difference.

I know what you mean:(

When I had the 87, I could buy a part for a SBC for $x.00

or buy the same part for a Corvette for..XXX.XXXX!!!

Sometimes it pays to shop around:thumbsup:

let us know how it turns out?

If I were in Congress I would propose a bill that required country of origin on anything that was purchased via mail order. Not a fail safe bill but it would help.

Actually, I would like to see a sticker that says "Made in America, with American parts, by legal Americans." :hehehe:

I was in Nashville over the past weekend and visited the Gaylord Opryland Hotel to tour the gardens.

About ready to go and decided to get a souvenier of the trip.

Found a shot glass (have a small collection of them) from the Jack Daniels store.
Now you'd think they'd be Made in America, you know, Jack Daniels and all....

NFW!

Made in china stamped on every damend one except one ugly assed design that was made in Germany! If I were going to buy one from there, I'd have bought the German made product first!

Went across to the OpryLand store and found one with the State of Tennessee Flag on it and some skyline shot of the city and bought it.

It didn't say where it's made (I'm sure I know), but at least it didn't say "Made in China" anywhere.

The older I get the more obnoxious I get about these things.

Well, you guys may find this hard to believe but we are no longer in manufacturing. America is now a 'service based' country. I know it's hard to believe and I think it's sad.

There were many things that contributed to the change but basically it's rolling with the flow. First we were agriculture based and then manufacturing and now service.

It's difficult to find anything made in America.

Actually, I don't believe that is exactly true. Heck, I can't remember the last time I called a customer "service" number and spoken to an "American" without an accent. Yeah, they will use American sounding names most of the time, but I guess if us dumb Americans are stupid enough to need their help, then we won't know the difference concerning the accent. Any "services" that can be done offshore ARE being done that way. So perhaps the dream job of America will be simply scrubbing toilets or flipping burgers at McDonalds? I guess people are going to be FIGHTING for those jobs riding at the back of the garbage trucks eventually.

Besides that, we are merely importers and consumers of those imported "goods". All the crap is made in China or Mexico for us to BUY. Even old established American companies are simply importing what used to be bootleg products and merely slapping their own brand name on them. Which, of course, is a house of cards on a shaky table. Where will be we getting the money to pay for this stuff if only menial jobs paying dirt are available?

With jobs evaporating, taxes going up regardless of the shrinking base of taxable cattle not having anything to give so the few people with paying jobs have to give MORE, and Uncle Sam printing up paper money with wild abandon shoving the inflation rate through the roof making what money we DO have worthless, where is this all going to end eventually? I just hope I don't live long enough to see it as we all slide down the toilet, but we are all apparently WILLINGLY heading down that flusher AWFUL damn quickly........

OK Rich, let me define the service industry. BTW, you are a service industry business, and a good one.

Services industries include retailing and distribution; financial services, including banking and insurance; hotels and tourism; leisure, recreation and entertainment; professional and business services, including accountancy, marketing and law.

So it's not necessary to clean the toilets or answer tech questions although they are services but you have much better choices to choose from. :D

There are more people working for the federal govenment, than ALL manufacturing in our country...
