Corvette ZR1 rated at 638 hp

Ok what's with the van and the rig out on the track? Was that an actual track or just a piece of open road in Germany and they call it a test track?

That's awesome! Who ever would have thought that you could one day buy a 600+ HP Chevrolet! (wonder what the monthly insurance payments are?) I also wonder what the dealers cost is? I'll bet quite a few are going to be "impounded" by the dealership owners as collector's cars. The owner of the dealer I worked at had a "new" 78 Pace Car Edition.

I believe the dealers are going to be offering the ZR1 for sale, but with a substantial markup involved. MSRP will be $100 large with a dealer markup of $25 big ones on up. Dealers have a waiting list, but the list might get trimmed down substantially when the potential buyers hear of the gouging fee attached to the purchase.

Now about that 638 hp figure, is that rated at the crank or the rear wheels?

Man, too bad I will probably never ever drive that fast.......

But I wonder what it is like to hit a deer when you are going 200 mph? :ack2:

Everything I've read says 620+ at the rear wheels. The original idea was a 700hp ZR1 so 620bhp would be around there.

I just can't believe it cleared the track at Nurburing at 7:40 while the Nissan GTR (R35 Skyline) Spec-V cleared it at 7:25. Pull the ZR1 back and figure out how this happened, fix the problem, then release it dammit!!!!! Quarter mile times, still better for the ZR1.

If it's 638 at the rear wheels, I would think hard again about getting one. After the dealers reach market saturation with the surcharges over MSRP and GM drops the carbon fiber roof and the peek-a-boo hood window, of course....

I would love to own one but for that sticker price?????? Dammit man!

It's going to be a real hot buy. Didn't the first one that hit the road get sold at a Barrett Jackson's auction for a Mil.6? Still, it's a lot of bread for a car that will have a short-lived existance. Remember the original ZR1? A springboard from the death of the C4 to the birth of the C5. I think we will see the same here with the new ZR1. The death of the C6 and the birth of the C7.

This is from a post in Corvette forum about the GTR Ring time. Also some more info on the ZR1, then the link. IMO, the 638 figure is crank HP. Just my 2 cents.

Nissan GTR Ring track time was posted with a running start, not from a stop
GM will take the ZR-1 to the Ring with a production ZR-1 and expects to better the Nissan GTR time from a standing start.

Yeah, but GM has unrated it's cars for years. None of the F-bodies HP outputs that they listed were ever correct.

Everytime they were dynoed they were always between 10-20hp more then what GM claimed it was. I have read several reports that the few lucky enough to dyno the ZR-1 have always dynoed it at around 620ish bhp.
