dtc 1287 1288

service active handling/service engine soon won't stay gone. Getting dtc codes 1288 mostly, with a 1287 tossed in for good measure on occaison. Sometimes it will stay off for 15 or 20 minutes, other times it throws the codes in short order.

I've done some digging and it's possibly the ebcm.. but not likely. It appears this is a rebuilt ebcm on the car.

Most likely it's the steering wheel position sensor. I can get the part, but it looks to be a bear to change. I've cleaned all contacts, (with andreh's help and guidance)

Anyone done this before, willing to help? .. Messing with the steering column scares me. Maybe this should be a job for the dealership?

well well

hmmm...maybe it isn't the steering wheel position sensor...just had a "fun" drive. 1288 x2... only when sharp slow turn left. but not all sharp slow turns left. Much different than prior to cleaning and reseating all contacts and grounds.

I'll look for any loose wires or something after she's cooled down some.

any thoughts?

Obviously replacing that sensor is not a walk in the park.....

Precisely why I didn't tackle it on my own. It requires removal of the steering column.

Just picked it up from the dealer...all fixed!
