• Got the Contributing Memberships stuff finally worked out and made up a thread as a sort of "How-To" to help people figure out how to participate. So if you need help figuring it out, here's the thread you need to take a look at -> http://www.corvetteflorida.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3581 Thank you, everyone! Rich Z.

Wow, did everyone bail or what? Haven't seen many posts lately by anyone.:shrug01: Hopefully everyone's out in their 'vettes enjoying the great weather.:yesnod:

Heck if I know. :shrug01: Guess it wouldn't be the first time that a site failed because of lack of participation. I just recently sold off my ArmsLocker.com website because participation dropped down below 10 registered members visiting per day. Wasn't worth keeping the site taking up server space any longer, and I fortunately had someone make me a reasonable offer for it.

I will be shutting down my CorvetteInternational site soon as well, for that same reason. Except for the RSS feeds I've set up there, there is NO traffic at all to the site. Wound up just being a big waste of my time setting it up. Breaks of the game, I guess.

I've retired my reptile breeding business and can't waste resources on things that are not worthwhile to me. Running a site with no participation is just not worthwhile to me. And actually this site is about the only one running on my other server, so in effect I am paying out of pocket leasing an entire server just for this site. That's $244 per month that I think I am being quite foolish spending while retired.

This site is in no danger of being shut down quite yet, but certainly other arrangements have to be made for hosting it other than leasing an entire server. However, if daily participation (and especially posting) drops way down from the current pitiful levels, well yes, there would be no reason for me to keep it around any longer.

Heck, I used to have a small number of people chipping in with paid memberships to help out financially, which has pretty much dried up completely. Oh well, times are tough, I know, but a point will be reached whereby I have to consider my own budget concerns with something like this site. I just happen to enjoy doing this sort of thing, but have to be realistic.

It's really up to you guys as to whether you want this site to survive. I can and will only do so much myself before I give up like many members here apparently have done.

Yeah, me too:nonod:
I know I've seen a lot of sites recently that are slow.

Maybe it's the weather, the fact that (as in my case) people are busy, IDK?

Hope it changes.:yesnod:

I stop by from time to time. Some weeks more than others. I like to see what some of you guys on the left coast are up to.

I know a couple of folks around here have had to sell their vettes and no longer feel the desire to participate. Also I'm sure there's a few folks who read the posts but don't respond or contribute for whatever reason.
I certainly hope it improves and can certainly appreciate Rich's position.

It would be a terrible shame to lose a great site like this due to lack of participation. It's not like Florida doesn't have many Corvette owners. You can hardly go out without seeing a Vette. But like any club, it's only as successful as the membership makes it. Thanks to everyone that tries.

I know what you mean:nonod:

I've been seeing a lot of "downsizing" lately among folks I never thought I'd see.
This economy sucks and peoples priorities change.

Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I've no doubt this site will survive. :yesnod: But, it'll take our participation to do it. Obviously Rich can't do it alone. I, like everyone from time to time, simply develope writers block. Then other times, the words just keep on coming.:shrug01:

I for one would realy miss this site...Alot of great guys and gals, great info...There is no other site like this one...Dedicated to the Sunshine State...

Its starting to cool down outside so people should start posting more.

Well, that doesn't seem to be the case so far...... :shrug01:

This weekend, Connie and I drove around town (Tallahassee) on Saturday and we didn't see another single solitary Corvette on the road the entire time. I guess maybe if I wanted a site with lots more participation I should have bought a Mustang and set up a site "MustangFlorida.com" instead. They were all over the place. Good thing they don't wave to each other or their arms would fall off.

Maybe the number of people in this state with Corvettes is just too small of a pool of potential members for this site to be able to survive? Possibly a generation gap thing where too many people old and set in their ways just aren't interested in conversing via message boards are Corvette owners in this state.

It sure isn't looking good for this site to me, right now...

I enjoy this forum, but ive noticed very little business from it and posts not being responded to, but ive made friend on here.

I like that its a smaller circle of friends than the larger forum.

Even when I was giving out tunes for free, I didnt get much activities. So whenever I tune a corvette, I tell them about this forum.

Rich has always been good to me so Ill always support it. I hope it stays !

Ditto what Tampa Tuning said! I only get to Florida to "see my car" occasionally, and I live vicariously thru this site. I really appreciate the posts and especially the pictures because it shows me what I'm missing and what I've got to look forward to when Dotty and I retire in a couple of years. BELIEVE ME.........there isn't anything that compares to coming in the house after a few hours of snowblowing and looking at pictures of Vettes in the sun, to make a person envious. I feel as though I've made some friends from this site even though we've never met, and the people I have met from this site are some of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. I guess the only words that come to mind are "LONG LIVE CORVETTEFLORIDA.COM!:yesnod::thumbsup:

I do what I can, when I can...to post!

With FL having 58,240 Corvettes registered (as of 30 January 2009), which makes us #2 behind California, it kinda makes you wonder why all those people don't belong to this site!! :banghead: :shrug01:

Keep it going Rich, life has a funny way of rearing its ugly head for some, and not leaving any time to visit this little box. I have my moments here as well! :hehehe:

That will be completely up to the membership. If registered members fall as low as they did for my ArmsLocker site, then it just won't make any sense to keeping the site running. So like I said, it's up to you guys. You have to show me you want this site to be here.

It comes down to spreading the word of this forum. I happen to stumble on it a couple years ago. So if you have friends that are in FLa and on the other forum, they might not know about this one. Ill start adding to my fliers and website

Thanks:thumbsup:

A big part of the problem, is that the majority of the "large" sites, will not allow you to mention another site. They're commercial and we're not.

The Internet Brands sites, Corvette Forum@, Ford Truck Enthusiasts (aka: FTE@)and a host of others owned by them, will censor any attempt to post a link to another site they consider a competitor.
I believe DC (digital corvettes) does the same thing.

On the same line, we allow links to other sites all the time, even those that have banned members for the same thing.

And if you get caught mentioning the site to someone else via pm/email at one of those places, you'll find yourself on vacation quick, fast and in a hurry:nonod:

There are a ton of people on each of those sites, that don't even know we exists:nonod:
And unless they have a need to do a google search, will probably continue to live in thier internet shell, oblivious to the good folks around them.

I've always said, the net is big enough for all of us. It may not be big enough for all of us to make $$$ at it, but we can all co-exist.

Rich, I'll say this publically.

If you decide to dump the site, let me know.
I'll find a way to keep it running for those that want it around.

Maybe a few of us can co-op it and keep it going:yesnod:
