Mannings

Driving into work, Talk Radio blasting :hehehe:, no problem Vettes going like a champ. Pull off I75 and bells start going off temp goes to 253, what the f*** :shrug01: Pull into a station top it off with water figure it's ok. Crank the old gal up that evening and get about 2 miles and there goes the bells again.

Oouch it's 5:30 p.m., frantic call to Tracy at RevXtreme, "bring it in right now"! I get there and pull it up on a lift, no Bird Nest in the radiator? Pop the hood and see steam coming fron the top of the radiator that wasn't there 20 minutes ago when I added more water?

Long story short, cracked radiator and stuck thermostat.

Thanks to Tracy and his Team at RevXtreme for taking care of me after hours and without notice.

Ouch.... In the old days the thermostat needed to be considered as a wear item that needs to be replaced on occasion. Not sure if that still applies today, but I would think if you have a car long enough to need to replace the radiator hoses, replacing the thermostat at the same time would likely be a real good idea. Not to say that new ones can't fail prematurely......

Sounds like they definitely took care of you. It's nice to know some folks still practice customer service like that.:yesnod: Glad it wasn't anything more serious.

Sorry to hear that, glad they got you back on the road ok.

I always drill an 1/8' hole in the flange when I replace a new thermostat just in case this happens. If your thermostat sticks like yours did, you still get flow through it may be small but it is better than nothing.

A 1/8 hole does that change the warm up time any???
Thats not much flow if it does stick closed

I am not sure on the warm up time however in florida I am not sure how much that is a concern under normal conditions. Drilling the thrmostat is more for vapor lock than anything and I am not sure if that is what mannings had but in the case of the stuck thermostat it is probable better than noting and could help get you to the nearest service station.
