"Hertz Does It Again; Company Rolls Out Corvette ZHZ, an Exclusive, Limited-Edition, Performance Car for Customers Seeking to Add More Fun and Excitement to Their Trips

June 09, 2008: 12:30 PM EST

Get ready to start your engines! The Hertz Corporation (NYSE: HTZ) has teamed up with General Motors to launch the Corvette ZHZ, a special limited-edition, high-performance super-car now available for rental exclusively through Hertz. Equipped with a 436-horsepower, V-8 engine, the Corvette ZHZ is the newest showcase car in the Hertz Fun Collection, which features a series of sporty vehicles designed to make the drive a key part of the journey.

Recognizing the special appeal of Corvettes to owners and would-be owners, Hertz is adding 500 Corvette ZHZ models to its airport locations in 24 major metropolitan cities across 14 states and Washington, D.C. through June 16, 2008, so this summer you can take to the road in style, wherever your trip takes you. The first Corvette ZHZs debut this month at Hertz airport locations in major cities including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer the limited-edition Corvette ZHZ as part of our Fun Collection fleet," said Mark P. Frissora, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Hertz. "With the launch of this exclusive program, customers can experience the thrill of renting a high-performance car that provides the utmost in driving experiences while adding a splash of fun with its distinctive look."

Finished in Hertz' iconic yellow with an exclusive center exterior black stripe, the Corvette ZHZ features a paddle-shift automatic transmission and 6.2-liter engine with plenty of reserve power for passing. The Corvette ZHZ also features a dual-mode exhaust system, magnetic selective ride control with "tour" and "sport" settings for a customized ride, and specific 18-inch front and 19-inch rear chrome seven-spoke performance wheels. The Corvette ZHZ's performance exhaust system ensures the aggressive sound performance loved by auto enthusiasts.

The Corvette ZHZ also features a distinctive look, with dramatic fender forms and exposed headlamps combined with the grille and center-exit exhaust, round tail lamps, tapered rear deck, a rear spoiler and body color door handles to create a dramatic visual identity. In addition, the car comes equipped with a screen mesh package that provides side covers, exhaust plate screen and a grille mesh; under-hood blanket with the Corvette emblem and lamp kit; specific console armrest with ZHZ embroidery and a Hertz fender emblem and floor mat embroidery designed by GM.

The Corvette ZHZ will be available as part of the Fun Collection fleet at the following Hertz airport locations: Phoenix, AZ; Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco, CA; Denver, CO; Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Miami, Orlando, Palm Beach and Tampa, FL; Savannah, GA; Maui and Oahu, HI; Boston, MA; Newark, NJ ; Charlotte, NC; Portland, OR; Charleston, SC; Nashville, TN; Dallas and Houston, TX; Seattle, WA; and Washington, DC (Dulles Airport)."

Can you imagine what these cars are going to act like, or look like, after being punished and abused as a rental? :toetap05: Of course, Hertz will 'fluff' the phuck out of 'em after releasing them from their fleet, but the fact will remain, these will be cars that CANNOT be trusted or relied upon ever again...IMHO!! :ack2::thumbsdown:

I'm glad they are being painted the way they are for Hertz...one big 'flag' that will always tout "BUYER BEWARE" fer sur!!

What a bummer that 500 Corvettes will forever be tainted with a association with the likes and ilks of a rental company! :shrug01:

I've bought a couple of cars from rental fleets over the years. You have to be careful. People use them (as I did recently) as test mules for later purchases. Or, they just don't care because they don't own them.

I'd hope at $250.00/day the people that rent them would be more mature?

Maybe Hertz will require a huge CC deposit for "damages" lilke the exotic car rental companies do?

I might be with you on this one though. Don't know if I'd buy one off fleet?

I wonder if they will get rid of them around 20,000 miles like they do with the rest of their cars. If the price is REAL attractive, it might be worth buying one with 20,000 miles on the clock.................even if MOST of them came in 1/4 mile, WOT increments! :lmao:
Andy :wavey:

Yeah, that would be interesting to see them showing up in videos at the track with people trying them out. I guess the cops will be on the lookout for someone hotdogging the rentals, though. Or finding them wrapped around a tree along the road.

Heck, if they sell them off cheap enough after their rental life is over with, what's the problem if you are going to mod it anyway? I assume the rental companies keep maintenance records, so ask for a copy and take note of how many times the rear tires were replaced.......

For $250.00 a day Ill guaranty Ill will burn at least 200 of those on tires:lmao::lmao:

Amen! I'm gettin' my $250.00 outta it somehow!:lmao:

Rich, the ones I purchased before all had excellent maintenance records with them:thumbsup:

You think the people who rent them treat them bad? You should see what the car porters (car washers) do to them. Man those where the best years of my life. I once had a cavalier in three wheel motion during a hard e-brake turn (driver's left wheel was completely off the ground). I'd never EVER buy a car that was formally a rental car.

I guess we are forgetting the legendary Hertz Shelby Mustangs they rented out. I sure wouldn't mind buying one of those if I had the scratch...
Were they abused (heck yeah - some even swapped the hi-po engines out and brought them back with a regular 289)? But you could get a nice college education at a private school for what they're worth now.

corvettes too good of a car to do this to. Hertz should just stick to the rustangs.
