Is it "opinion" or "fact" whether a car dealer would offer more or less if they buy your car outright or they take it as a trade-in towards a car purchase?
Most dealers will balk if you bring up the proposition of a trade-in AFTER the negotiating is basically finished. Most will ask you up front about a trade-in to try to dodge that sucker punch. That is telling me that they really don't want you to know what the pittance is that they are actually and truly paying you for your trade-in.
If you are going to sell your car, sell it to anyone other than the dealer. They are there to make money, so your best interests are running a far second in that race.
